was anybody else due to fly to florida on this, then have a 32 hour delay only to be flown out on a laker airways dc10? AFTER being loaded onto a tower air 747, which we had to get off because the loader crashed into the plane?? 1996 i think?
The reason they vanished is because it had a bad safety record. Air crash investigation shows loads of crashes. I think the shape of the DC-10 is amazing.
@boyOboyO2 The safety record of the DC-10 wasnt actually that bad, there have been much more 737 crashes than DC-10 crashed but no one looks at it that way. Also most of the accidents happened in the early 70's, plus Fedex operate loads of them still, i think what killed off the DC-10 was firstly its age by the late 90's when most were retired they were nearing 30 years old, secondly the 9/11 attacks also sped up the process as cockpit door modifications were needed + High operating costs.
@andrewz105 Thanx :) It was bad to be fair though it was mainly the cargo door and the times they were not serviced just like the united airlines hydraulics failure, the cargo door turkish airlines and the aa one. To be fair though arent all aa planes old cause onair crash investigation and the seconds from disaster alot were american airlines that crashed. I know some dc 10s still fly but most are gone fedex and biman bangladesh probarbly use them the most like u said.
@boyOboyO2 Yes, it wasnt a big success, there were teething issues with it as you have pointed out. But you have to remember McDonnell Douglas rushed to finish the DC-10 in the early 70's as did Boeing with the 747 and Lockheed with the L-1011 they all had problems, just the DC-10's were mostly fatal. Yea American are in a transition at the moment, they are trying to replace their older MD-80s and A300's,
Lovely aircraft to operate & it took me safely to some great destinations, also an absolutely great atmosphere among all the crew on `CA`, detractors take note!
old DC-10s should be stored in a museum for another 70 yrs so then the future people can look at them then say that went back to the early 1960s! so that plane dosent drop to bits!.
AeroAquarius: DC-10s dissapeard because they might have been stored
in a museum for people to look inside and say wow! like that Dc-10 I was just talking about in a nother 70 years people can look inside and say the buisness has colappsed but it looks still great inside
I flew in her many times when she was with Zambia Airways as N3016Z, she was a real beauty. She then had 22 in First, 33 Business and 175 economy talk about comfort. I also flew on her on her first ever commercial flight in 1984.
You know what's strange though? They seemed to just suddenly vanish. I don't remember gradually seeing less and less of them, it's like one minute they were there and then suddenly they were gone...
Nice to see the old bird again. I flew as a First Officer on it for 2 years before I got my command on the airbus. She was a delight to hand fly. A real airplane with a huge flight deck!
join the air cadets and get some flying expirience, it looks good when you apply for a pilots job, and its better than paying loads off money for a ppl coz we do all our flying for free
I flew on her to Orlando in 1999. I then flew with Airtours International on an A332 but i must say, it was nothing compared to the old bird that is the DC-10. It was wonderful. All the sounds of the wonderful aircraft.
Fantastic video, thanks ever so much for uploading! First good videos I've ever seen of the Monarch DC-10, a plane I travelled on and that I frequently saw at Manchester when I was younger. Love this bird, glad she's still with us as a museum piece- 5/5 from Tom Hughes

it's at the viewing area at Manchester Airport (towards the bottom of the runway). It's used mainly as a school classroom.

Is it the whole aircraft?

from the nose to the second door, so around 1/4 of the aircraft.
