What a beauty! Looks utterly fantastic and sounds the business and moves and roars like a beast! Cars since the mid 90s have been a real turn off, apart from one or two. Yes I know there is far more power and performance now, but the attributes of style, fun and character are long gone.
Might I just add that I compared those two engines because the Ford/Cosworth RS3100 was the most powerful production Capri ever (although none were sold to the public, only race teams) and the Shelby Mustang 7.0L Cobra Jet was the most powerful Mustang built up until the GT500KR (which is a modern day car so would not be a fair comparison)
You can squeeze more BHP from a more efficient and better engineered engine...point proven...though I'm sure you'll argue...you're American.
@linn1000 ...got to agree with you on that. My 1st proper car was when I was 18 and got an A reg 1984 Xr3i. It was proper brilliant, and just before the time when insurance went sky high. I think I payed £220 fully comp back in the mid 80s which was really good. Id hate to be a young driver today trying to get insurance on a boy racer today!
Listen to the people on here doubting that its got 200bhp, what on earth are they talking about you can get that out of one of these with a cylinder head and cam swap alone. My 3 litre runs 150bhp on a rebuilt engine to standard spec plus unleaded heads, dyno proven. And also the wheels look great so don't listen to anyone on that either. Car looks fantastic, another video would be good.
well as i asked the question, i guess u must mean me, it was just a question, ur 150bhp is only 14hp more than a standard essex V6, and to find yet another 50hp from an engine with no trick ECU's etc is not easy, hense asking the question, ive had 2 essex v6 capris and 1 cologne V6 so i do know about v6 engines, it wud need oversized pistons and possibley bored out to about 3.2 ltrs...but hey i wud never suggest its a lie.
@19SAS You obviously know a fair bit about capris, however i disagree it would take a massive amount of work to get it to 200bhp, you can reach over 180 with just a head and cam swap, past that its only a case of improving the fueling and you could get it to 200bhp, i can see why people rebore but i don't think its strictly necessary to make it to 200bhp. Check out ric woods website if you need convincing he's been building race spec essex engines for years so he know what he's talking about.
i believe you can get up to £3000 of the price of a new hyundai with the scrapper scheme ,you'd be mad not to take it!.................lets see how many thumbs down i get :)
my dream car when i was a kid. Everyone seemed to be driving vauxhall astras and cavaliers in its day. this was grease lightning compared to that crud oh this and the manta ray yeaaa
people doubting the bhp, do you really think they would go to all the trouble and expense of tuning the car and then not doing a dyno test to know what they got out of it? seriously. lovely motor, great j-turn ;D
24v cossy V6 sounds better, looks better, goes better and is cheaper. BUT credit to you thats a fantastic capri and was a good video. nice and clear, let me see the car and hear tho noise :')
must have taken a lot of work to squeeze another 70 od bhp from that engine, u possitive its 200bhp??...doesnt seem to pull that strongly..nice clean car tho, but pls get rid of those wheels, does the car no justice at all
ok ok, nice car, but: what the hell is with those mufflers? get them into straight position! Then what is this trailer hook you have in the rear.. that is just so yuk!!
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Sports Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!
I now have a hard on , & fucking regret sellin my 3.0s . My old 78# even had some 7 spokes on each corner , they just set this car off to a tee. As i,m halfway thro a midlife crisis rite now.. the Harleys going on hold & i,m gonna look for one of these bad boys :)
I grew up in America, where we would always tout our huge-V-8 bruisers, chargers, mustangs etc..... But I am in my place now. These brit 4-cyl 6-cyl cars are much like the brtish people, elegant and powerful, yet dignified and humble. COMPLETELY cool car, thanks for the post

cant really do doughnuts in a mk3 unless you have the 2-8injection with an optional LSD rear diff.Sorry to stamp on you parade pal,but just had to say that
you can do donuts in anything pal trust me if i could make my mothers 316 get an asbo for it anyone can lol , the lsd wasnt an option it came in the 2.8 special, the 3ltr had wider rear drums on the axle and was a diffrent ratio.
@coffinfodder Actually, you are wrong. The LSD WAS an option. It was available from the time of the X-Pack Capri's as an optional extra. Very few people opted for it, either due to expense, or they were simply unaware that it could be specified as an extra.
@sixtring73 Purists would pour scorn on the brooklin alloy because they are not from the 3.0s period...it would much better if this car had the optional 4 spoke RS x pack wheels that was available as an option for the car at the time
But ether way the car in the vid after all these years looks a good un ;)
Forkin Super mate, now thats what I call a car. I had the 2.0L Sports in Black for 3 years and was chuffed to fu+k with it. But a 3Lt is the dogs boll)xs. Cool vid mate and a massive happy face from me. BRAVO BRAVO
Put some period 3.0S 4 bar alloy wheels on the car! As an owner of an immaculate & highly modified 2.8i- 3,000cc conversion + Turbo Technics conversion, I do not understand why so many owners of 3.0S replace the lovely period alloys. The period alloys are major part of the car's character! Go for the Bodie & Doyle look- get the orignal rims back on it!!! :)
I have the magazine mate! Your car is superb! I think you have done a fabulous job on the restoration. The 3.0S is a 70's icon, particularly in black. Look out for my car in Classic Ford in next mths issue!! 2.8i enlarged to 3,000cc & turbo'd! Small world isn't it?! Once again, well done on saving your mighty S! :)
Nice car, i thought the video was kinda kinky in a voyeurish sort of way! I had a 79T 3.0s 15 years ago with a 3.1 and big valve heads and a 63 cam, I hope you have got a 40dfi carb on it and not the old dgas as the dfi really does the business at revs, with the 3.09 diff and std 4 speed it should do 85 in 2nd and 115 in 3rd and cruise at 130 happily. I would take the 2.8i wheels off it so people dont think its a pants cologne 2.8v6 and put on some old school style alloys so they know its ESSEX
I had one the same colour as this, I used to open my drivers window to listen to the roar of the engine....only the V6 had that distinctive sound, lovely.
GOD DAMN!!! i want a capri so badly. i'm gonna get a part time job while im at college and absalutley beast out my driving lessons, save up and get one of these beasts. i just have too but they are getting quite hard to find
proper old school just how they were intended to be driven, ive had over 40 capris and all have been driven how they should be and love it,they were not built for driving slow, top marks to you, keep it up
What a beautiful car, and the noise it makes.. Geez!! I just love those old Ford v6 engines. They where something ey? Your car is in lovely condition as ell. Major cudos to you for keeping such a beauty running:-)
Love the old v6 capri's and im sure a healthy 2.8i would give my vectra gsi a good run for its money upto 60 but thats not the point! these cars are cool classics and i want another one !!!!
lol back in the 80s my dad and his friend lost their stove shop due to a Capri. His friend got a call from the cops about 4am saying that they chased the Capri that ended up next to the stoves that were apart of the window display! The driver was lucky cos he was inches from the RSJ's that supported the front of the shop. Capris are dam good cars but the back end was very lively :D
These engines love abuse. I have a Ford Ranger with the 4.0 with over 200,000 miles, and I run the hell out of it. I run synthetic oil, and change it twice a year. This engine is nothing more than a smaller displacement of the same engine that I have in my Ranger..

You really ought to respect these cars more mate and drive it a bit better, you just looked a fool,i own 3 concourse capris and would not dream of wasting one like you do!
thats what these cars were made to do, they were born to be thrashed, when they advertised the car for selling they only ever talked about the performance of the cars, he has kept that in immaculate condition so he obviously isn't doing anything wrong, he drove that gently compared to how i thrash my runabout, but i must admit i wouldn't drive my mint condition ones like that like i would with my runabouts.
great car mate love those old capri's, im thinking of trading the TR7 in soon and youve just persuaded me to get a capri, good driving aswell worthy of the professionals
Funny that Ford used these old pushrod engines in the U.S. Ford Freestar Mini Van.
If you check my video, the engine sounds the same when taking off and it looks the same. Only mine is fuel injected & it uses a coil vs a distributer.
Proper Old School muscle car-none of your mincey, nancyboy 16V nonsence, just a good sized engine with big torque :) I own a 2.8i that I have enlarged to 3,000cc & have had a Turbo Technics T3 fitted. 230 BHP (on low boost) & 280 ft lbs of torque at 3,500 rpm. Gearbox ratios have been tweaked 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. Out of the way all you nancyboys in your 16v bland Euroboxes!! lol
the essex engine was a great engine i had one for 8 years and slaughtered it everywhere ,it never let me down but then the saying goes there are drivers and then there are DRIVERS
What a beauty! Looks utterly fantastic and sounds the business and moves and roars like a beast! Cars since the mid 90s have been a real turn off, apart from one or two. Yes I know there is far more power and performance now, but the attributes of style, fun and character are long gone.

Out of the way all you nancyboys in your 16v bland Euroboxes!! lol
