It's the sign of a good guitarist if they can play both good on acoustic and electric, but to do that with a bass is a completely different league all together with the lack of higher notes and strings.

@newman015 just fyi: a bass can reach up to a high E (the last string) of a guitar, so there isnt lots of missing higher notes. thats why i like bass, you can get the low notes in with the higher ones :) but your statement is very true

@MrQuoteMan A rather subjective question. personally I have a breedlove atlas (studio model) - a hell of a bass for ~ $750 (probably closer to 800 with tax etc). Could not be happier with it - beautiful tone. Laguna also makes some really nice acoustic basses - played a slightly damaged (but still lovely sounding) one recently which was $445 I think...

Generally you get what you pay for, I've played a $200 dean bass... but ultimately choose to save for the more expensive models.

I miss my Dean acoustic bass. One of the tuners broke three days after I bought it. When I took it back, I ended up buying an Ibanez 5-string electric bass instead. Big mistake.

I have an acoustic bass my self (Ibanez AEB-8E) kinda annoying that the case is so big. and its not possible to slap, hammerons and pull-offs sucks (or maybe its my lack of skills)

@Kimma87 Hammer-ons and pull offs aren't affected by it being acoustic, it is probably the [generally] higher action of acoustics being the problem there, you should try lowering the action and all should be fine.

Slapping is much harder but definitely not impossible, try cupping your arm around the body rather then downwards, and use double thumb, it works.

Not trying to say anything against your bass skills or such just throwing my 2 cents in there!
