its only dead in winter becouse rich tourists have bought more than half the houses in Cei-Newydd as 'holiday homes' and pushed the true welsh locals out.
Lots of Midlanders go there, as I recall, at least by listening to accents. But there were lots of Welsh people too. As a Mancunian, I was taken there by my grandparents and parents - who were all from Cross Hands, Cefneithin and Gorslas in Carmarthenshire - in the 60's and 70's. They all talked about being taken there as kids. I have taken my kids many times, though it is a bit of a commute as we live in Canada. I hope they will take theirs
@kaytiibabes: I did say tend to go to Fontygary, that doesn't mean everybody! But walk through Newquay in the middle of the tourist season, most of the accents are Midland. I'm not saying that South Walians don't go there, obviously, but it's easier and in many cases, cheaper, to get on a plane and go to Spain than it is to get to Newquay - logically speaking, Cardiff airport is closer!
Coming back down again in 19 days time can't wait to get away from it all in a nice peaceful place that's not over-run by minorities. Dragonland here I come. Penwig get those pints ready LOL. Also looking forward to a nice bowl of cawl.
I'm English, I used to visit New Quay for years as a boy. I Love it. My Grandfather was born in Manchester House. His Father was a taylor there. His father was a ship captain. His father was the life boat coxan and donated a large amount for the peir. Some of my ancestors are charactors in Under Milk Wood. Be careful next time you call an 'Englishman' Tourist, for he may belong to New Quay more than you!!
Hey leonaofficial please don't slag us English off, we are not all bad people (though there are a lot of tossers i will give you that). I happen to love Wales and it's people and am forever sticking up for you whenever the said tossers have a go at you. As for New Quay, me and my wife like to come down when it is a bit quieter (when it's not full of English people LOL) and meet up with the many friends we have made down there. Oh! and have a few pints of Brains in the Penwig.
Why? is there a north/south divide in Wales like there is in England? To be honest with you i've been all over Wales north and south and i have found everyone to be friendly wherever i go. The dragons are a great bunch, they get too much (unfair) stick off us English who have probably never been to Wales and jumping on the "Welsh hate the English' bandwagon.
no problem, just hold on to the till the market picks up.property always holds value long term.look at market history, theres no need to panic.5-10 years time there will be more english holiday homes.you owe it to us,seeing as you benefit from our welfare state.
Your welfare state lordflanderwell?? Since when has the welfare state become just the preserve of the English? I was under the impression that the Welsh, N Irish and Scots paid into the benefit system as well. How foolish of me not to realise it's only the English who keep us fed in times of hardship
Do you live in the ardal? My old neighbour has moved into the village and loves it there. Prefers the winters over the summer season for obvious reasons.

most of the tourists are actually from the midlands, not south wales. South Walians tend to go to Fontygary

nope, the majority are from south wales. I'm not saying that a lot people don't come from the midlands though, far from it.

I love this place but it is like a ghost town in the winter. Totally different in the summer.

Ah, good old Welsh nationalism, it's the tourists that pump the money into that area, most of the locals are glad for it....
