I disagree with the fact that "young people are naive." Young people may appear to not be living in "reality" because they are in closer touch with their ability to create their lives, than older people who are more jaded and discouraged and think life is superimposed upon them. It's tricky to explain how children can and do most often make good choices; suffice it to say that if they are shown early on that they are trusted, they will learn to trust themselves vs their peers, as teens/ adults.
I agree that each person, parents or not, should seek their own happiness. However, it's a fact that young people, usually, are naive and they do no think about the consequences of their acts. Most of the time they act impulsively and value more what their hear from their peers than their parents. That's why they experiment with drugs, drinks, unprotected sex and so on. I wonder if this lady who gives advices is a mother and really knows what parenting a teenager is all about. Easy to say...
LOL! I was thinking about this particular movie on Abraham and where it went and here it pops up again. Here's my son's (2) version of relaying: I am always safe:
I am gonna stand on the road while you watch that window in the shop and oh, I know it only took me half a minute but here I stand there is a car who stopped a few meters in front of me and I am waiting for you to see me standing on the road with a car in front of me. You see me? Good, message hammered in...
@susanshelit Somehow I think I would have met firmly with physical punishment had I pulled that same trick as your little one! But fear of punishment is a huge card in the deck of the misaligned.

Parents who never lived life to the fullest always behave this way. They can't stand their kid living a reality they are too fearful to watch.
