  • When I was a youngster I thought this was the dumbest show ever. But when I was in grade 13 something strange happened. I would spend nights in my room downstairs doing homework for hours. The TV would be on but I wouldn't be watching so whatever was on just.....ran on. MASH ended up being one os those shows that ran. After unconsciously hearing it for several weeks, I started to pay attention. And I started.....laughing. Then I started watching.......religiously. Then I started........

  • @SCROGY .......to wonder how in the hell I ever thought this show was dumb. Stupid kid! I realised of course that MASH is probably a little too mature and intelligent for a kid. For example, the episode where they are playing poker with Sid Friedman and he says he had a patient who would only crawl along the woodwork and Hawkeye responds: "Oh.....corporal Kafka!!"......now how the hell would you know what that joke meat unless you read The Metamorphosis? I wish I had been smart enough......

  • @SCROGY .......to watch this show when it was in production. as it is I have loved this show in syndication and I truly think it is the GREATEST sitcom to ever grace television. I hope to one day sit down with the series on DVD and watch the whole thing in one sitting. That will be some marathon!!!

  • RIZZO IS HILARIOUS!!!

  • MASH was my absoloutly favorite show of all time. I eagerly looked forward to each new episode back then. I was laughing all the time watching these wonderful actors and actresses do their craft. I was so sad when the show eneded, but still laugh and fondly remember the good 'ol days of watching a classic show. Rest in Peace Colonel Potter/Harry Morgan. You are one of the greats and you will be sorely missed. The same goes for Larry Linville.

  • BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this show. Not surprising that this show STILL has an impact after all these years.

  • I have the whole 11 years of this including the reunion show I got online...love every bit of this show !!!

  • Don't forget these were the best shows back then. I still watch rerunds after rerunds of MASH. Some of them were tear jerkers.

  • I wonder where / How people obtain such footage?... wasnt' from Tv.

  • Thank you for this post

  • this is awesome, thank you!

  • Alan Alda said that this was the most unusual experience he ever as an actor. He said it was like be on stage in a empty theatre, but all the audience were watching from the wings.

  • R.I.P harry morgan you well be miss

  • GOODBYE, Harry...You've been like a father and a friend to me...All these years. As these other posts elliquintly have stated...YOU'VE BEEN THE SOUNDTRACK TO A BIG PART OF MY LIFE...NO MATTER HOW HARD LIFE HAS BEEN, I ALWAYS FIND COMFORT IN TUNING IN WITH YOU GUYS AND SHARING THESE WONDEROUS STORIES...See you on the other side SIR...YOU ARE MISSED...

  • Its hard to impress on people today what a big deal this show was. TV is NOT THE SAME now. This was destination viewing at the time. There is a whole generation of people who have this show as their life sound track. Today everything is so homogenized. Every show is a CSI clone. Along with the Vogue models that serve as the actors. MASH was different. It had PEOPLE as characters. You could honestly believe these people really existed.

  • May you rest in peace Col. Potter. Mash is one of thse shows that made me feel at home. All the characters could be your friends and Col. Potter to me represents a voice of reason in times of insanity. It's funny you know my daughter complains about football or things I watch but one day we watched a Mash marathon and she stayed with me till the last credits!

  • Goodbye Sherman T. Potter. R.I.P

  • From the crew at Mount Sinai Hospital and to your family...

Thank-you for leaving us much entertainment to enjoy until we meet you again.

    Love and Godspeed Mr. Morgan,

    Dr. Gemma J and staff

    Toronto,Canada.

  • It will never be bettered.

  • RIP Harry Morgan. You'll always be Col. Sherman T. Potter to us.

  • Farewell Harry Morgan May God take care of you

  • The only show that even came close to MASH was All in the Family. They don't produce programs like those anymore. Not before not since.

  • Can ya feel the love? :)

  • Oo how i miss to watch the last episode 30years ago....

  • I watch it every night, and never tire of these charachters that I think of as family

  • Still love the reruns of MASH. Makes you laugh, cry and remember that the cost of freedom is not free and that as a nation, we should not just throw the lives of our service members away without just cause.

    Semper Fi

  • im 19 and it is by the the best tv show ive ever seen in my life, this is real television! no remake of mash please, might ruin the original. :)

  • @india5 WELL SAID.

  • I teared up watching this... MASH was such an amazing show, and is still one of the best there ever was in my book. There is something powerful in it...

  • MASH is truly a gem. I miss it!

  • So sad to watch.

  • with tears rolling down my cheeks....thank you for this

  • Love this show, I shouldn't even know about this seeing as i am only 18 but there we are. Its my fav show :P

  • Harry Morgan is such a troll. An amazing and lovely old troll.

  • This doesn't remind me of Star Trek the movie at all - where is the dude that played Fred Sanford, and why aren't they wearing their regulation Army Sombreros?

  • Comment removed

  • I have seen every single episode of MASH and watched them all as they debuted and were shown weekly.I love this show and could watch it all day long with no complaints. They just don't make 'em like this anymore, that's for sure!!

  • ladies and Gentelman take my advice take of your pants and slide on the ive

  • Easily my favorite show of all time. Well-written, compelling characters (Although Margaret always has kind of annoyed me, her character is still interesting.). Alan Alda is tough to beat, and I always really liked Winchester. The show got even better after he joined, giving Hawk and B.J. a much more worthy foe/ally.

House is #2 for me, but it's a distant second.

  • Original title to this episode: Unemployment, Here We Come!

  • Those folks became part of our history, and they will always be remembered by me.

  • That is touching when the actress who played Holahan breaks up crying during the rehearsal. I feel sad when watching this last episode too.

  • Radar Kinde of reminded me of Charley Brown

  • @chism26 You know, that's an interesting observation! I never thought of that before, but now that you mention it ... you're right! The same kind of character. Lovable, put-upon, everybody's whipping-boy. The guy who loved Nehi's vs The Guy Who Always Got a Rock in his Hallowe'en bag.

  • Mash could be the only show I have to watche for the rest of my life

  • the worst show of the late 70 was Taxi

  • Hogans heros was dumb

  • Mash and In The Heat of the Night were the only 2 shows that got better as they aged. The writing was superb. The way that they changed relationships as time went by. Reality. The cast changed and it didn t lose a beat. That s life as we know it.

  • Hogans wasn't dumb! but MASH was better.

    :)

Does Father Mulcahy remind anyone of Kermit the Frog? C'mon!!!

  • @lauraandjamesjo4 idk about kermit the frog, but Mulcahy was in Hogans A LOT!!!! :D if you didnt know haha. Just saying. A little fuse of the two.

  • @ilikeblondie LOL Yah, I saw him a lot.

  • I did not see no scouts

  • Hoggans heros was dumb

  • Winchester had his good points

  • For years I refused to watch M.A.S.H. with the logic that if they had such fun in Korea I can't WAIT to see how much fun I had in Vietnam! Then I watched it and saw what a masterpiece it was. This is the only show I've ever seen which got better as they changed leading characters. Henry Blake was never believable as a C.O.. Col. Potter I could believe in a heartbeat!

  • 6:40 OMFG!!!!!!!!! I WAS THE CUB SCOUT IN THAT SHOT!!!!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ON MASH!!!!!!!! =D NEVER SAW THIS CLIP IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! GOD how Jamie Farr's cigar STUNK that place up!!!! i couldn't eat for the whole rest of the night, lol!!!!

  • radar rulezzzz gary your the best

  • Imagine if you put the cast of Hogan's Heroes along with the MASH cast?! hahaha

  • Johnny Depp would make a great Hawkeye, please remake MASH and this time put it in Vietnam. Come on guys there are still MASH units in todays world, humour was a way of dealing with the day to day events. Todays Mobile Army Surgical Hospital's are like star wars to the Korea days.

  • @Seal00754 there's no need to remake mash. Theres not a chance that it would be better than the orginal because this show is perfect :)

  • @ryano048 I couldn't have said It any better myself.

  • @Seal00754 The U.S. Army deactivated the last MASH unit on February 16, 2006.

  • I noticed the video has no dislikes, at least people know how to respect great actors and one of the greatest shows ever.

  • watched this show as a kid, remember the finale when it aired, although only now all these years later do I appreciate how truly amazing it was..sad to see Loretta get choked up like that and break character briefly, this had to be a tough shoot emotionally

  • I would watch an hour of this over most shows currently on TV. To watch a group of true professionals working their craft, and especially showing the "family" that they had become in the way they react to trying to film these scenes, is a joy to behold. Thank you to the doctors and nurses of the "double natural" and the actors who portrayed them for hours of enjoyment on screen and for sharing these precious moments off screen.

  • @mbugal Only an hour?

  • I love this show so much, i even have everyepisode saved on my dvr and still watch everyday

  • It's amazing to see the characters of the show must of us watch and love can, during the outtakes, show their true selves. And that true self is something we've never seen before and in my eyes alone, shows how well they can play into the characters that they are. Rizzo, Father Mocahay, even the Col. all have a awesome and unique personality on the show, it was amazing to see what they must've been like filming it.

  • 0:36

    RIIIIIIZZZOOOOO!

  • it would be ruff for that last days of filming

  • Um the last episode is goodbye farewell and amen

  • @CollaborationSeries True but Goodbye Farewell and Amen was shot during the fliming of the last episodes of M*A*S*H. So this episode before the Series Finale was the last episode to be filmed.

  • they outta have a special new 1 time episode where hawkeyes great grandson finds and opens the time capsule

  • @guitargold77 please dont say that because if they ruin mash like they ruined everything else i will blow my brains out!

  • lucky xD

  • I own all seasons on DVD, and this will be my favorite show for ever, and I will always get wet eyes when I watch GFA.

  • I loved this show so much that I just ordered every single show on DVD as a package on Canada's Entertainment Shop . com All 11 years of it. Gonna be so worth it !!!

  • Personally, I like Potter more then Henry, sorry fellas but I started watching the series when Potter in it.

  • THE smartest, funniest and most thought-provoking TV comedy every made!!

  • this really was one of the best shows out there...im only in my 20s and i love watching this show because of how well it plays.

  • @falcon21386 ya man i do the same thing...i watched it with my grandmother.

  • @dennyman100 I did the same....we loved it.

  • @falcon21386 im only 13 and i love this show

  • @Zasha44 it was an amazing show for how long ago it was made...its sad they dont make shows like this anymore

  • They were all one big family because of the number of years M*A*S*H was on the air, cast changes and all.Col.Sherman Potter & Col. Henry Blake couldn't have been more night and day from one another.

  • As Jamie Farr once put it,M*A*S*H was "dramedy" at its finest!

  • wow, a precious moment caught in time.

  • The best show ever.

  • i wish they still made shows like this

  • MASH is a classic show, i wasn't even born when the show was on the air, but my mum loved it so much she bought the dvd's when they came out and we watched the, i think i know every episode by heart and i think that it was amazing.

  • I am 17, I have been watching MASH since I was 8 or 9. I love this show and watch the show everyday multiple times. I have no idea who my favorite character is. At times, Colonel Potter is my favorite, I love a lot of characteristics of him. Radar at times is my favorite due to his child like but caring ways. Of course, I love Hawkeye, Alan always stole the scenes. I love all of them.

  • MASH is my favorite tv show of all time but I have to admit that I don't often, well, admit that as when I do I kept skeptical "really?" looks and cries. Like they can't believe why I like it so much.

  • the guy who plays Rizzo actually was in Hogan's Hero's too. i don't know who he played tho

  • @originalalphathewolf lmao nope I own them all and I'm fifteen and a girl my friend and I luv this show ( she even named her dog hawkeye!)

  • My Favorites...Margeret...Klinger--Heck,I love em all!

  • i cried when the finial episode ended

  • BY FAR THE VERY BEST SHOW EVER TO APPEAR ON TELEVISION. PROBABLY CANNOT AND WILL NOT EVER BE REPEATED BY ANOTHER SHOW

  • No offense to Father Mulcahy; he's by far the best character on this show, but I wonder if William Christopher's voice ever changed? LOL.

  • lol Rizzo....

that's the same way they treat Louisiana in 2010

    thanks

  • I'm so curious now. Am I the only 17 year old out there too own the whole M*A*S*H series from season 1 - 11? Heck I asked for MASH as Christmas and Birthday gifts there for a while. Great show, beats almost anything this generation puts out now.

  • @OriginalAlphathewolf

nope im with ya on that one, and my friend is 16 and he also as all of them lol

  • @OriginalAlphathewolf your not the only one, i still get sad when i see the final episode too :(

  • when was the set hit by the fire?

  • @paraawesome In the early eighties. All that's left there now is a abandoned truck and jeep and the helipad.

  • @paraawesome I saw the set back in the late 80's when I was stationed in Port Hueneme. It was really cool to drive into the hills near LA and see it. You could just drive right up to the roped off area and walk in. No guards, no security, just an empty spot in between some hills.

  • Yup! Hawkeye makes House look pretty bad; but then House is pretty cheesy anyway...

  • I bought them all on DVD so I can get my fix whenever necessary lol, usually a few times a week even with the numerous times it is aired ( still at least 4 episodes a day)

  • @rocketman6464

The Later years Of MASH Were a good combo of Politics and humour. and were excellant!

  • ..and real, whats wrong? dont know how to handle your emotions? War isnt one big joke, and to percieve it like that just leads to the assumption that war is ok. i admit its nessecairy sometimes, but its never ok to end live, if you dont have too. So sorry it wasnt funny enough for you, why dont you go back to family guy and ren and stimpy.

  • I want to hug them all! (Alan Alda gets hugged every other person =})

  • there was 2 sets alike. outdoor/indoor.

  • i LOVE M*A*S*H

  • does anyone know what the EXACT final scene was? the one when they yelled "CUT! That's a wrap!"??

  • i vaugley recall seeing the 'last scene' on Entertainment Tonight, and when alan alda called out "Cut! THAT'S A WRAP" and the flashbulbs went off, and that was it. i knew the last 'episode' presented was 'Goodbye...' but i think that one was in the can (already filmed) before this particular one. wish someone could clairfy that. GREAT SHOW

  • The last scene of the last act, which ends with Hawkeye saying, "Well, since we've buried everything else, why not the hatchet?"

  • seriously, the greatest show ever

  • Best Dam show of all times.

  • Haha, thats exactly how I see it, DrMASH!

  • The best television series along with Seinfeld. Long live M*A*S*H.

  • Hawkeye, or any other character on m*a*s*h, surgeon or not, could kick House's ass.

  • You are so right ^^

  • @potentialavalanche Without Hawkeye, the formula behind House probably wouldnt exist. I dont look at it as superceding but as homaging

  • @tiemedown very wise words

  • @tiemedown

Isn't house inspired by Sherloc Holmes?

  • @Lt93Nick Yes indeed, in fact its very blatant. But alot of his gruff sardonic character is informed by hawkeye, without Mash I doubt House would have been so widely accepted

  • @tiemedown

Maybe U are right.. But MASH is so much more better then House! ;)

  • @Lt93Nick House could have been just as good (remember MASH went through its share of bad writing times too) but the writing is alittle too unreliable

  • @potentialavalanche

    Blashphemy!!

  • @LifeByTheDrop no its not

  • @93maggot yes it is! House is God!

  • I don't care what modernized / immature people say, I still love this show and watch it if I can.

  • @Unitronus it only suck when they first make it funny then make it drama

  • My comment was 7 months ago! Whats wrong with you!?

  • @Unitronus its the same thing it was made about 10 or 20 years ago

  • Well I really don't care. Talk to someone else with a more recent comment. ZZzzzzz...

  • @Unitronus hey im 13 and i love this show

  • @EDog1o1 i watched this since i was 10 it is the best show ever made

  • @EDog1o1 hey im 13 and i love commenting on random videos saying that im 13 and i love all these videos ive never heard of....dickhead..

  • @The18Angus i have watch all the mash episodes i have seen them because when my mom had surgery my dad got a case of the episodes just because im 13 doesnt mean i cant watch mash (my favorite character is radar btw)

  • @EDog1o1 um dickhead i didnt say u couldnt did i...

  • @The18Angus but then y did u call me a d bag and say i post random comments abought stuff i didnt know about

  • The final episode of MASH filmed was this one, but the "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen" movie was shown as the last episode. Truly, the end of MASH was the event of the '82-83 season, and it will live on as one of the major Television events of our time! Thanks for the posting...

  • and it couldn't have been done any other way, Even though it was not filmed last, "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen" *is* the final episode of the series as it depicts the end of the conflict. That said, I remember watching the local news in LA when they discussed this time capsule episode as being the last. Much to everyone's surprise, it wasn't.

  • Are you kidding Frank funny? Hes the 6th funniest in order are Hawkeye Trapper Blake(rip) Klinger Radar then Frank

  • Frank's meant to be a weasle, but the late Larry Linville played him well.

  • This video comes in the Mash DVD box set Martinis and Medicine forgive my spelling. It can also be found on the GFA dvd box set.

  • is there audio commentary on dvds in this set?

  • Excellent ! This is like a short documentary / docu - drama (?).

The actors seem more human during rehearsal, working to put a finish on the " product ".

  • One of the best shows ever made. A reunion would be great but it would be sad without Col. Blake and Frank. They were the two funniest actors in the whole show.

  • Wouldn't it be great to have some kind of reunion movie. Someone, maybe Hawkeye, could go back and retrieve that time capsule.

  • GREAAAAT THANK YOU!

  • I cry every time I watch Goodbye, Farewell and Amen.

  • I'm not ashamed to admit that I cry every time I watch "Goodbye Farewell, and Amen" same with when Radar leaves, and when Col. Blake leaves. MASH FOREVER!!!

  • same here, i could watch goodbye, farewell and amen a million times in a row and it would get me every time

  • I know exactly how Loretta felt when she broke down toward the middle-ish. At my school we performed the Sound of Music and were together for about three months, and before our last performance we got all the cast members out on stage and sang "The Sound of Music" and "Edelweiss" together...I was a mess. I still really miss it.

  • Gotta love MASH. I own all 11 seasons on DVD and this episode and the final episode are probably 2 of my favorite (even though I was said to see the show end).

  • Frank Burns eats Worms!!!!!!!!

  • at least he got to eat margaret...

  • lmfao thats sick! =0)

  • i reference the episode he and margaret hooked up:)

  • Harry Morgan in great new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible LIfe: Revised Edition) at amazon!

  • What a wonderful treat. Thanks for sharing this. M*A*
