A corrupt government that we are still dealing with 40 years later propagandized a bunch of confused and misled young national guardsmen to shoot their fellow patriots. It's the most tragic kind of friendly fire. We can never let them do it to us again. weed need accuracy and truth in media laws that punish people that deliberately defraud their audience with propaganda for finacial gain. Make companies that hire reporters execise due dilligence in their reporting. Fox News would be gone.
You guys all know Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders was there on the campus when this happened and witnessed it all from a dorm window. She said the National Guard seemed to be retreating but then they marched up a hill, stopped, turned around and fired into the crowd. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!
Vietnam was a confusing war in a confusing era, Kent State is a prime example of an event that never should've happened to begin with. Had the protestors decided not to riot in the streets on May 1st and tourch the ROTC bulding on the 2nd the Guard would never have been called to the campus to begin with. As for the Guard the officers should've checked to make sure no one had live ammunition, and the guard unit that fired on the protesters should've been court-martialed
China will not only invade but also occupy the US. All americans will work for chinese and they will become the minority and will get a taste of their own medicine.
So your excuse for US soldiers doing it is that the Viet Cong did it too? Good to know we hold our troops to the standard that as long as the enemy does it too its all good.
Vietnam protestors accoplished nothing. Nothing. Nothing Except destroying other peoples property, gettting people hurt and causing people to get killed. They motivated no change and just caused tradgety for purely self gratification. They should be ashamed and also should be held accountable for their actions.
@mmac382 Can easly turn that sentence from a Vietnamese point of view ..... US 'accoplished nothing. Nothing. Nothing Except destroying other peoples property, gettting people hurt and causing people to get killed. They motivated no change and just caused tradgety for purely self gratification. They should be ashamed and also should be held accountable for their actions'
@THEBURNINGTIGERS Three days of civil disobiendiance destroying the city of Kent. If they wanted rubber bullets used they should have been throwing rubber rocks. The National Guard unfortunatly shot the wrong people. They didnt want to hurt anyone thats why they shot over the protesters heads. That of course was a mistake. They should have shot the protesters.
@mmac382 So rocks should be met with bullets, I someone throws a rock at you from a hundred feat away and you shoot them as well as three people your going to prison. Forget I don't think your interested legality I just think your glad they got shot because what they stood for, I bet your reaction would be completely different if the people shot were people standing up for something you believe in.
@THEBURNINGTIGERS The Guard retreated in an effort to not have a violent confrontation and the protestors followed them with continual bombardment of debris. Do you not think a rock can hurt or kill? And they were protesting something I believed in. Nobody really wanted us to be in Vietnam. Its just that some of us decided to be adult in our protests. All these protestors accomplished is getting people killed and they should be held accountable.
You would have shot two people not even involved in damaging your property?
And its not even your property, its public property. They weren't threatning anybody. Those who shot them were yellow-bellied cowards and brainless drones hiding behind their guns.
I blame the National Guard and the joke of a government that sent soldiers to die by the thousands for a wrongful war. THEY started it all.
No one here is saying the truth and that is that we have the right and indeed the obligation to protest against the gov when see see the wrong they do. My sister was there that day and I went to school there a couple of years later.
Thank you for continuing to keep this wonderful tribute up for those in the USA to remember always... Kent State. It's the pictures that represent the power more than having the music. This was very well done, and I'm sorry your soundtrack got cut.... kind of a YouTube Massacre if you as me! :p
The burning of this ROTC Building scheduled for demolition caused the governor of Ohio a Republican Right Wing Lunatic to call out the National Guard. As students went to class that following morning they saw armed guardsman with tanks. Their campus was turned into a military installation. The guard was so out of control they placed a gun on an unarmed student they shot and killed. For a nation that preaches human rights to a world we had martial law at Kent. Never forget Kent State.
I do not faut you for your comments, your youth allows you to say such words. Allow me to enlighten you on a time and a movement that changed the world forever.Americas invasion of Cambodia was seen by its youth as an escalation of the already unpopular Vietnam War. The youth of the nation and the world were protesting the war and its countless deaths on both sides. A protest took place in Kent that saw the burning of an abandoned ROTC building set for demolition on campus.
As in Vietnam, the only way to stop the Iraq & Afghan wars, is to defeat the US military. Here & there. Paul Kangas, Vietnam Vet. You tube: paul8kangas
It is liberation because America never takes the spoils of war - we re-build (i.e. Japan, Germany, eastern Europe, western Europe etc.) You would be happy with Mao, Stalin, Hitler. Fidel or any run of the mill dictator - so long as they hate America. As for the facist state you really do not know what you talking about. People come to this country legally and illegally to be part of it. Don't see too many people going the other way - unless you want to then enjoy the trip.
Guess they should have ducked and weaved. Protestors - no traiters and communist supporters who are still in the faculty at Kent State. Bullets were a fitting response to the "students" there and should have been used on other campuses. SDS, John Kerrys, Hanoi Jane - they never got the true pain they deserved - and they contributed to a lot of guys dieing in Viet Nam.

Idiots didn't even know what the hell was happening in Vietnam.
Those people who spit in the Vietnam vets face deserves to be publicly executed.
And FUCK YOU Jane Fonda who is probably the most IRONIC bitch ever.
Cussing about Capitalism and saying Communism is better but yet right now as we speak she is benefitting from Capitalism.

A sad day, but the students burned a building, damaged property, rioted and more.
If they did that to my property, I would have had a legal right to shoot and kill.
And I would have done so.
Do not blame the National Guard.
Blame the students.
They started it all.

Remember Aron Ralston, the 20 yr old, trapped on a desert in Utah for 6 days with no water in 2001?
To free himself, he cut off his right arm.
He lost half his blood.
How did he do the impossible?
Doctors then realized he had replace his own lost blood by drinking his urine for 6 days.
In a crisis like Haiti, if people knew they have this backup source of safe water in their bladder, then people would not die from a lack of water.
