This is what started it all. THIS IS IT! No, Elvis did not write this song (for his mom or anybody else). But, when E did this song live 'back in the day", the fire was lit. Things haven't been the same since!
Wow! A lovely young Elvis. Great pictures in the video. Thanks for sharing. As I am British I have to mention our Elvis equivalent BILLY FURY who was very famous in England. Unfortunately he also passed at 42 from a heart problem brought on by contracting Rheumatic Fever at the age of six. His cd's and a dvd called Billy Fury: His Wondrous Story is available from Amazon. His was a similar career to Elvis' and he is still loved and missed since his untimely passing in 1983. RIP.
Those who dislike clearly have no understanding of music whatsoever. I wish I had been around to see Elvis when he first exploded onto the scene. Hearing it now blows my mind (and I know what's coming). Before Elvis, there was nothing!
very well done, Jackie! thank you so much for sharing these incredible shots & recordings of the Great King of Rock...Elvis Presley! Enjoyed the entire video!!
The king at his begiining rare and pure ,,,was in Canada and seen a new guy called Andy Probyn,,,he starting out just like the king,,,,us ladies went bonkers,,,, i think he will be big also,,,so sexy
the first one was on reel to reel, the second was a poorly made transcription disc... interestingly, NONE of them have the great Bill Black audible more than a distant "clack clack" in the background! mic that doghouse!
Elvis took influences (like every great musician, it's about taking the next step) of both Blues (black) and rockabilly and country (white hills music). So saying he ripped off the black man is not correct.
Elvis took influences (like every great musician, it't about taking the next step) of both Blues (black) and rockabilly and country (white hills music). So saying he ripped of the black man is not correct.
As far as I'm concerned Elvis is still on top. No one out there has matched him or bettered him as of yet, and likely ever will!!! Even with primitive equipment, he beets the hell outta anything that's out there now!!!
hear this track and you see why Elvis is the only true king of rock, no one comes close. He never stole music from the black people, he made a life in music possible for black people, there's no greater musician than Elvis, period.
Elvis' and Scotty's arrangement and version of That's Alright ('54) was the begining of the R-N-R sound, it even sounded different than A. Crudups original version ('46) his being blues. Elvis' version musically and vocally was much cleaner sounding too! And you're right, Elvis never stole any music, credits were always given to original writers on the record, and royalties too! Elvis' and Scotty had a special talent of re-arranging a song to give it that Rock sound they wanted.
It should also be noted that on side B of That's Alright record is Blue Moon of Kentucky, a blue grass country tune, also re-arranged by Elvis and Scotty.
What pisses some, but not all Black people off is, no other Black entertainer nor White for that matter has ever topped Elvis or ever will! Not even MJ will! So they make up myths and lies about Elvis to try and tear him down, when they should be enjoying the music of both Whites and Blacks colaboration! Elvis is and always will be KING!
Elvis didn't copy anyone, black or otherwise... he was Elvis period. If his styyle was just a copy of black etc... then anyone could copy..... he created a unique presentation of song and movement all his own.... I am so fed up with the bull shit of he copied blacks etc,,, all bull shit. Elvis was my friend and a one of a kind!
@fdr100100 Mozart, Bach and Hayden might have been good musicians, but they did not ROCK. They didn't have the RAW, RHYTHMICAL, SEXUAL voice of Elvis. They might have made good (brilliant!) backing musicians. Elvis's influences were from the black community - but his voice was his own!
@OldenzaalCity I think also a big credit goes to Sam Phillips for bringing this kind of music out of him, Phillips encouraged him and tore him down like RCA and Parker.
Well he inspired John Lennon and Paul McCartney... They formed a band that would later do well,eh?
@OldenzaalCity well to be fair most of his songs were covers of songs from black artists from years earlier that people dont seem to recognize but he did give the music more feeling and energy in my opinion
@OldenzaalCity "He never stole music from the black people" I agree. "he made a life in music possible for black people" Well, a life in music was already possible for "black" people before Elvis -- Louis Jordan, Duke Ellington, T-Bone Walker, Nat Cole, etc. were making a good living as of the late '40s, and Chuck Berry's "Maybellene" charted pop before anything by Elvis did -- but his inclusive attitude helped.
Yep u got it... I think this was his first recording w/Sun records. My dad was a DJ at WHBQ in memphis when I was a kid and met all those guys, Elvis, Beatles, etc. Damn... Wish I was there.
Thankyou for this wonderful share to Hollandgroup2008 and also to jackie61 for this great upload. He was and will always be King in more ways than one!!
I had the honor of entering Elvis' dressing room at Municipal Auditorium while i was stationed at Barksdale AFB, I couldn't believe i was standing where the king had stood, later i got to go out on the stage where he performed for the first time, what a gorgeous auditorium, everything is beautiful inside and out, I am hoping one day a member of the Presley family will autograph my Fender Stratocaster, if not then maybe Mr. Burton??? Who knows?? Thanks Mr. Presley, I salute you soldier.
My mom saw him this year at her high school dance in Newport, AR. He played in the gymnasium while people were dancing. She said people were dancing, but the girls didn't go hysterical and stop dancing until he started dancing on stage. She said the guys thought he was 'kinda funny' for jerking around the way he's known to do
The guys were JEALOUS of Elvis from the beginning because of the way he made the girls feel and act! A member of my family saw Elvis perform before he was famous in 54 or '55, and she never got over how good he was,how good he looked ,and how SEXY he was!
You are right "envious" would be the correct word. The only time jealousy came into it would be when Elvis had a relationship with their woman which did happen a few times or most of the time they just thought he did or thought he was flirting which he often times was!
This is four live performances of Elvis singing Thats All Right, Mama on the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was broadcast from the Municipal Auditorium on KWKH radio. These performances were recorded October 16, 1954, January 15, 1955, January 22, 1955, and August 20, 1955. Elvis performed on the Louisiana Hayride from Fall 1954 until April 1956.
This blues song is a true masterpiece and Elvis will definitely always have the very best renditions of it. Elvis will always be the greatest singer, entertainer and phenomenon without a shadow of a doubt. . Elvis will also always have the greatest voice and the greatest fans without a shadow of a doubt. Elvis was and will always be a true one of a kind without a shadow of a doubt. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
Thank you for sharing on YouTube.
Take care and may God bless you.
