Keep in mind that post oaks may tend to grow on sandy sites there in East Texas, but you can not say that it prefers that soil throughout its range. Here it "prefers" cherty clay (SW Missouri). It is just that with all of the rain you get in E. Texas, the only type of soil dry enough for its roots is the sandy soil there.
