had the phantom x-19, too and it was the most awesome toy i ever had, especially because it was so damn huge for a toyjet. and with ghostrider it had the coolest of all piloting figures. i so wish i had kept it instead of letting my parents sell it.
I loved Gi Joe when I was younger, but it was around the time Sgt Slaughter joined the team that it went south (for me.) I just couldn't buy into it. A wrestler had no place, and neither did Refrigerator Perry with the iron football on a chain.
I agree on The Fridge but when I was a kid, I didn't even know Slaughter was a wrestler (never was into wrestling as a kid) so it didn't matter to me. Not to mention that at least the Sarge still kept up the military theme which is more than can be said for Fridge
@Dragonrider1227 I just thought having a real life person as a G.I. Joe made it even cooler. And Captain Gridiron's football grenades were just pure awesome. Of course, he wasn't real, but footbal players as Joes does work.
My most favorite toy I ever had, the X-19. After that I really didn't get toys any more. Except for maybe some Micro Machines and Ninja Turtles, but after that I was done with toys. I miss you Phantom :(
X-19 was the best looking plane. I had The Cobra Raven which was bad ass, but when I got The Phantom, I used a magnifying glass to simulate battle damage on the Raven. I wish I knew then what I know now about collectibles. I never took care of any of my stuff then. :(
Dont worry about it bro. They were meant to be enjoyed. Hell, I just used a band-saw to cut the nose section of a joe skystriker right off, and I have a masterpiece grimlock holding it up (he used his energon sword to slice it)
The pilot of the Stealth plane was codenamed GHOSTRIDER. But for some reason they couldnt use it in the comics so the pilot became refered as either "Captain Jeffries" or "What's his name" because Marvel said they couldnt use GHOSTRIDER for the obvious reasons.
Him and the Stealth fighter are featured in the comic packed in the 2-pack featuring Ace and Wild Weasel. On sale now.
Know what makes my skin crawl? Fat loudmouth wrestlers who participate in publicity stunts where they have their character sell and pretend to side with Saddamn during the first gulf war.
I dont care if it was staged, he should have stuck to the noble ideals that embodied GI Joe and not sold out no matter what they were paying him. Some things are more valuable than money. Honor and integrity first and foremost. And Slaughter sold those out when he agreed to participate in the stunt.
Yeah I never understood or agreed with that... I was like "but I watched him as the gi joe mascot for years... why the hell is he wearing iraq gear!?"
I'll cut him some slack these days because Bob Remus (Slaughter's real name) openly admitted he thought the publicity stunt was in extremely bad taste and supposedly apologized to the Joe fans.
Im sure it wasn't his idea and he had to do it because he was ordered to by his superiors running the WWF. Im still deeply dissapointed in the guy for doing it, but I guess I can see it for what it is. Still cheap though. But at least he apologized.
Hell when that happened his family recieved threats their home was going to bombed. These were for real and Vince Mcmahon had security people watch over the Remus family for a while and moved them to a hotel. After is when I guess they began to drop the Iraqi Supporter crap. As much as I hated the gimmick too, I try to remember he was doing a job. I mean it wasnt like it was his idea. If he didnt the WWE could of fired him. Man has a family to provide for, cant blame him for that.
That is very cool. I remember this when I was younger. That was back when everybody was trying to figure out what the U.S. military 'stealth fighter' would eventually look like. Too cool!!
You are so correct. I remember when they brought him in to fight the B.A.T.s and I remember the rest of the Joe's being Talking smack. The Joes had just got their asses handed to them by the cyborgs and were all butt hurt. Then they introduced Slaughter, they were talking all kinds of crap to and about him. Then Slaughter slapped them around like Red Headed Step Children, even Road Block. I was in ah. Didn't Slaughter then fight the BATS and rip one's arm off as he beat it down?
I still have the Phantom. Most AWESOME jet ever.

They need to re-issue both these vehicles.

yeah, I remember that being hilarious. The Joes couldn't beat the B.A.T.s but Sgt. Slaughter takes them all out with a stick!
