@vnisanianisback You are not the only one who remembers her for her roles as both Bebee Bluff & Elmo on Nick's Doug (Sorry I don't watch the Disney version). If it wasn't for that show, I would've never heard of her! Rest In Peace, Alice Playten. You too, Doris Belack.
Michael Mckean reminded us via the Twitter that it would have been Alice Playten's birthday today. I looked all over for a copy of "Perrier Junkie" from National Lampoon, and found this instead.
Being a huge Broadway fan, I am ashamed to admit of only recently discovering Ms. Playten! And how very sad for me to learn that she died on my birthday! This is a wonderful clip. I used to rush home from school to watch Mike Douglas every week day. I am in awe when I think how much talent used to come into our living rooms each day via these talk shows! I very well may have seen her on this show when it was broadcast. Rest in peace, Ms. Playten. Your enthusiasm and your talent live on!
I remember Alice Playten in a commercial for Koogle Peanut Spread (who remembers that?), and she was charming on both the adult and the child level at the same time. That explained her unique appeal. I was saddened to hear of her death just last month. Rest in peace, Alice.
Yep, this is MIke's program, direct from KYW's studios in Philadaelphia. His was the best syndicated "afternoon" talk show of its day, with a wide variety of guests, "demonstrations" from little golfers like young Tiger Woods, and "theme weeks" (pairing the Rev. Norman Vincent Peale AND Alice Playten on the same program?) Nobody thinks OR "books" guests like that today...most talk shows are primarily "plug-plug-plug" [latest movie, TV show, book, sporting event, et. al.].
@kneejerker Uh...since I was a kid in the 70s, The Lost Saucer and The Frances books was the only point of reference I had. And I don't think that's sad at all. Jerk. @@

Aw, I'm sad that she's gone. 63 is actually too young to die. RIP.

I'm watching her on an episode of "Monsters" (mid 80's) right now. She was cute.

Can't believe no one has mentioned her most well-known roles: The voices of Beebe Bluff and Elmo on Nickelodeon/Disney's Doug.

I agree with m4modern: I cannot believe she's alluded me all these years despite my being such a Broadway buff.
And my, God! She sold the hell out of "I Happen to Like New York."

What a genuinely warm woman. I could feel the heat radiating from her. RIP Alice.
I don't know why but I feel a great contrast between the stars of years past and todyas fare. Miles apart.

Of all her work, it's The Lost Saucer that you loved and remember her by?! Now that's sad.
