Hi there, great video, however the link to the Terminal commands file is broken. Could you restore the link to the .txt file as I can't quite read your terminal commands in your video (the quality is not high enough I think)?
Hi, is the hidden "drive_C" file something created by Wine via windows that I can delete or is it a part of OSX already and should not be tampered with? I am going to go ahead and used Boot Camp so I need to partition and could use more extra space.
hi. I have installed wine using terminal. My X11 is up to date. as you say in your video I type wine then press space and bring the installation file in afterwards
This is what it tells me after i try to install world of tanks:
When I try to install Macports I get this error Your existing MacPorts or DarwinPorts installation is too old to be upgraded by this installer. Please install MacPorts 1.7.1 first.. I have never have installed macports so I dont understand this error
If you don't mind shelling out $40 you can get a program called crossover by code weavers. It's wine but all the work has been done for you. And you can try it free for 30 days.
Everything installed fine, used it on an *.exe file, and the install went through fine. How do I then use the installed program, since all it did was install it rather than run it?
Error: Unable to open port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?
Error: Unable to execute port: upgrade fontconfig failed
Before reporting a bug, first run the command again with the -d flag to get complete output.
I got this error Messeage in Terminal when typing and running the Wine Install Code:
Unable to execute port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?
Hey is there a way to run Mac (.dmg) apps on windows 7?Or turn the app files(.dmg) into .exe files? my windows 7 looks EXACTLY like a Mac OSX so i just want mac application because there is no way in paying $1000 for a computer. i have a Toshiba with windows 7.
bought a imac for €2000 and it was 100% worth it. Just buy the damn mac I know u will think different when u got a mac... Everybody does(who buys a mac).
Couple of issues for me here - one terminal I tried didn't have the little dollar sign - it was a percent sign instead. It wouldn't accept the terminal command. Also, when you do tell Macports to instal Wine, what files do you need to have where in order for that to work correctly? Thank you for posting this, by the way; it was very helpful :)
my terminal says, Error: You cannot install wine-devel for the architecture(s) i386 because Error: its dependency expat only contains the architecture(s) x86_64. Error: Error: Try rebuilding expat (and all its dependencies) with Error: the +universal variant by running Error: Error: sudo port upgrade --enforce-variants expat +universal Error: Error: Target org.macports.configure returned: incompatible architectures in dependencies Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. Now what?
I want to do this on my MacBook but when I go to the macports website there is no 'Leopard Universal' There is only Snow Leopard, Leopard and Tiger. I don't know which one to click. The site must have changed since this was posted.
everytime i type in sudo port install wine it says "-bash: sudo: command not found".. i have xcode 2.5 installed and macports installed. and i am an admin. help?
ok, now, i got it all installed. its working( macport & wine). But i've got one question. can I install more than one .exe file, using one macport. or do i need to install multiple macports?
---> Computing dependencies for wineError: Unable to execute port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?
i finished doing everything and i got up to the part where i type "sudo port install wine". i type it exactly but it doesnt install, instead i get this error "---> Computing dependencies for wineError: Unable to execute port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?"
oh yes you must either not have XCode or have the latest version of Xcode. If you have the latest version. Type this command before the port command:
---> Computing dependencies for wineError: Unable to execute port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?
How do I fix this error? Btw, I am running Snow Leopard.
when I hit enter after sudo port install wine, it gave this message: Computing dependencies for wineError: Unable to execute port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?
dude you are the best thanks i try installing wine before bout you have the best video to show people how to install wine thanks I'm now useing wine thanks
Okay, I'm trying to set up a trial version of WinZip. I have the setup file, and I type in: wine winzip121 into the terminal. X11 opens, but then, the terminal shows:
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winzip121.exe": Module not found
Okay so I actually dragged the setup.exe into the terminal from my games folder...however it says It requires XP or Vista...so does that mean I am screwed for all PC games regardless of whether I have Wine or not if I don't have windows?
I would guess that the setup program checks what OS it's on and gets Mac instead of any version of windows, meaning that you can't run that program on WINE. Try an app called CrossOver.
or you can install crossover and it works perfectly. I know crossover costs money but you can get the full version for free just search youtube there are tons of videos on how to do that. thats how i did it.
The way you do it is against the law. I dislike doing that since I'm a good citizen, and people worked hard on CrossOver, is it really fair that they are being robbed from? If everyone stole software all the time then adobe, Microsoft, and other companies would go out of business.
well i know that but do u think my parents would just give the money do buy it? i know i dont so u have to do what u have to do. im a good person too but i cant afford to spend money and experiment with programs. it would be easy if everything were free.
Everything with terminal was working fine until I ran that code in the description and now when I type ls or say or something like that it says exactly this: "-bash: ls: command not found" do you know how to fix this?
Well, I just looked in my /bin folder using Finder and all the Terminal command files are still there, but when I type ls it says "-bash: ls: command not found" so this is confusing to me, do you know what I should do?
Ok, go into /etc/ and edit a file called profile with text edit. Personal Message me the text inside of that file. Also, do you have iChat and Leopard? If so, we could screenshare and I can try to fix your problem.
I think I have the solution, but maybe not, I noticed that in the Profile file when I opened it with text edit PATH has a space like PA TH if I removed the space will it work?
I tried to enter the code: echo export PATH=/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:\$PA TH$'\n'export MANPATH=/opt/local/man:\$MANPATH | sudo tee -a /etc/profile into terminal but it comes back with, "Illegal variable name". What did I do wrong?

In my opinion I like crossover better... its stabler. Darwine is better then Wine.

Yes, I have heard of Darwine. Thanks for your input. If you want, you should make a video response with your opinion and good ideas.

Yeah but I like this more since it's free and open source.

Does Crossover work just as well, or is Wine more powerful?

I think they pretty much do the same thing accept wine gives you access to the "c drive". Also, WINE is free unlike crossover.
