Some churches acknowledge women as preachers but they still are not permitted in the pulpit. Some COGIC churches have no issues with either women preaching or speaking in the pulpit.

I guess it depends on what church they at. Dorinda Clark is COGIC but I seen her in the pulpit, I think GOGIC is just starting to believe in women preachers. I could be totally wrong, this is just my observation, so don't no body rebuke me. Can a COGIC member shed some light on this subject, I would like to know.

There are some female pastors ("shepard mother") in some states- but they commonly serve as supervisors (equivilent to the jurisdictional bishop) and district missionaries (equivilent to the district superintendent). Bishop Charles Blake is the internat'l presiding bishop he of course is the cheif apostle of the global church and Mother Willie Mae Rivers is the general supervisor of the women. It is like the husband and wife to a home and COGIC precieves this to be the God's order of the Church.

Bishop C.H. Mason, COGIC founder taught that women were to "teach" and men were to "preach." Fundamental COGICs restrict women from preaching and in settings when they "teach" it is done from the floor. However modern COGICs accept women missionaries preaching the gospel; it is understood today that "preaching" is an art of teaching. They aren't ordained elders or consecrated bishops but are licensed as Missionaries in levels of Aspiring, Deaconess, Evangelist. Dorinda is a nat'l Evangelist.

Because in the earlier days COGIC women were not permitted to preach or be called preachers. They were permitted to teach and only acknowledged as teachers. We know better than that though. These powerful women have been preaching for years down on the floor. LOL It really depends on the church and Pastor. Many COGIC churches have progressed beyond the issue of women preachers.

Do you know what the reasoning behind calling them Shepard Mother if it is the equivlent to a Bishop, why not just call them a Bishop if they do the same thing. I'm asking for education, not to be funny or disrespectful to the COGIC, I really love that fellowship.

The scripture says that the Bishop must be the "husband" of one wife. This scripture gives the connotation that the office and title of the Bishop is reserved solely for men.

There is no rule in COGIC that says women can't stand on a pulpit. However, it is just some churches custom if you will. Truth be told, some don't care to stand on a pulpit. The COGIC is a worldwide organization. You'd be surprised at how some of us differ.

I'm sure things have changed, but when I was coming up, women were not allowed in the pulpit and they didn't say that they were preaching, rather, they were bringing the word.

LOL! My grandmother says they also used to say, She wasn't preaching, she was "reaching"! Truth be told, some of our best preachers are women. Evang. Dorinda, Evang. Joyce Rodgers, Supervisor Vanessa Gatlin, to name a few ; )

@Pawboi85 Im COGIC also and women are in the pulpit often...as a matter of fact during convocation all the missionaries have a permanent seating arrangement on one side of the pulpit and the pastors and bishop on the other

I've visited a few of my friends' churches who are cogic and generally if a women is leading praise and worship, reading the announcements or operating in some other similar capacity they do stand at a smaller podium or stand like in this video and fulfill their duty from there... So I was just wondering why....

@iDiscipleLEGGO Actually she isn't if you watch the video when the camera person zooms out you can see that she is standing in front of the pulpit. There are two more tiers one which forms the pulpit and another on which the podium appears to be resting. I asked the question out of curiousity because I've seen this at other COGIC churches were women if not preaching operate in the capacity from a remote podium or stand but never from the main one.
