Mid-90's- Metro Chicago- saw them live with only 2500-3000 people. After the show, the band was insanely gracious, and each signed my leg in black sharpie, as I was wearing a dress- and it would have been unbecoming to ask for autographs elsewhere. They were kind, warm, wry- absolutely brilliant. Will never forget ( and couldn't hear for three days,,,,:))
I rank Chrome as my #1 album of all time - I even have a top 50 chart at besteveralbums . com to prove it
This song particularly helped me deal with a great anguish in my life when my best friend died a year after high school. I've had this album (first on cassette, now on CD) for 17 1/2 years now and still listen to it fairly regularly.
I agree with Tomothy... "Chrome" was the best "Catherine Wheel" album. But "Slowdive" is a far better shoe-gazer. :) And My Bloody Val is a whole other realm.
"Chrome" is easily one of the BEST albums of the 1990's. It's a fucking masterpiece! Spacy and atmospheric, with hooks galore. I've been listening to this album for 17 years and it still amazes me.
Masters... simply masters... why not propose Catherine Wheels tracks for a movie soundtrack or something. Sound fine for a cars action movie. Finally "Black Metallic" is inspirated in a car. Will be great to see it in a film.
Indeed he did, if Brian is indeed your pops. He was a big part of the most impressive live bands I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). Someone once said Catherine Wheel live were able to "harness the power of the wind", and that's pretty apt if you ask me. So f'ing powerful. How's dad doing now?
@enjoyingmylife I saw them play live with Tonya Donnally and Belly Halloween, 1996. The Wheel played for almost 3 hours. Tonya came out after 2 hrs, with coveralls on, a big broom and tried to sweep them offstage, and was standing in Rob's face pointing at her watch, Rob just smiled, closed his eyes and kept singing. Yes, they harnessed the power of the wind that night, for certain.
