A lot of those techniques are useless if some pulls out a (surprise) knife on the ground. Too much movement. Military fights should end fast not rolling around going for submission like in the UFC. Steve Byrnes is a former marine fighting in the UFC, but his fights in the octagon is nothing like how he would fight in a combat situation. You don't see many people in an MMA bout do cup-hand strikes to the ear, try to rip an ear off, or use all their power for a neck crank to kill their opponent while they're on the ground do you?
