Castlevania established this style since the NES era, and you can see that clearly the Slash style for 3D games was seen in the N64 with both Castlevania titles released for that console.

I'm not saying it was the first with that style, but one of the strong ones.

GoW fails completely.

Such beautiful settings and story will never be in a GoW game, which is only fuck and kill.

DMC is the original hack and slash, and fight mythical creatures, and use flashy combos, and use an overpowered berserk left handed attack and so on - game.But that doesent make every other game in the genre a rip off.Are all racing games a rip off of the first?No. Every game has something unique so claiming something to be a ripoff is exagerated.

@TheCrimsonDay offensive to who exactly? its a fact it rips off GOW in lots of ways and DMC plays a lot differently than this, where as LOS plays the same as GOW there's a difference. Just cuz DMC is a hack and slash doesn't make it the same, playing DMC is a lot more loose and freer in terms of movement, both Gabe and Kartos are stiffer in their movements, But like I say I like them all. I'm just not afraid to call a spade a spade only fans boys are afraid to do that.

Break a wall using a spider/wolfie, kill few here and there, climb few walls, rinse and repeat. I don't see any weapon upgrading incentive or other factors that would keep me going forward. The combat is fluid and unique, no doubt; but this isn't how castlevania game should be. Hell, the ps2's one was harder than this one. The puzzles are easy to solve. Why do I have to break EVERY door w/ a beast?

and there is no weapon upgrades beside those you pick up through the story used to unlock a section you couldn't reach before, they add some small things buuut nothing huge.

however you can unlock combos and attacks instead

Soul Reaver is a good example ( aim at the enemy, strafe and atack? yes.), and even older games (unknow for the fanboys). But yes, DMC did set a place to the genre.

While Castlevania were the first of these games, they likely drew influence from GOW. Really question is, did Castlevania fight giant titans before SOTC? :D

@Butchurus Have you played Aria of Sorrow or Dawn of Sorrow o the Hanldheld system? It is a legitimate sequel to SoTN, as I am a HUGE fan of that game. However, I am just going with the flow of things with this game. The Castle is presented later on in the game, as Vania, the word, means "woods". Just speaking from an open mind, I suppose.
