I got to actually hear Mathieu Lavoie eight years or so back when he was singing for Varekai. He blew me away. He sounds good here, but it can't do justice to hearing him singing twenty feet away from you. I will pick him over Josh Groban any day. Groban is an excellent singer, but he lacks the emotion that Lavoie brings to this.
After reading all these comments I thought I was gonna be blown away, but I'm kinda cringing. His voice sounds like it's about to break from strain, and not in a good way. More like a teenage boy who can't quite hit the notes. He almost sounds kind of unsure of himself.
Josh Groban may sing "stronger", but THIS is exactly how this song needs to sound. It's not a big operatic number. It's a simple, sincere plea. Bigger is not always better. I can, however, appreciate that Groban likes to go out and find great songs and redo them to sell some discs. At least more people can hear it.

I love Josh Groban's voice with a passion but I have to say that Mathieu sings it so much better. It doesn't matter that he doesn't apparantly have a strong enough voice, you can't tell me that you don't get chills listening to this song. Besides Cirque du Solei songs aren't about power they about emotion and making you believe anything is possible and for me Mathieu does it so much better.

@PiccoloClinton He's Quebecois, has released a full album & mini 3 song album. kills this song, did it 10x weekly for years while touring with Cirque, before moving to Varekai & killing that 10x weekly. Still does things for Cirque. Had the pleasure of seeing him perform his own music in the Studio-Theatre @ Place Des Arts in Montreal; truly the best concert I've ever been to.Groban may be stronger but Mathieu's is truer. Look up "Trasparenza" from Varekai. No words, just him singing.

While yes, I do like Josh Groban's version as well, I feel that Mathieu Lavoie's version is much more believable. So, if we look at it in another way, it is a good accompaniment to the performance, which has choreographed "weak" moments that put the audience at fear for the performer, who "recovers" and continues on. The song is just an accompaniment. The song has great merit and the lyrics are moving and inspiring.
Just when I think they cannot come up with another moving, beautiful song, Cirque does it again. This is an amazing song with such an incredible message.
@directv232 If I'm not mistaken it's also Lavoie's voice on the Quidam soundtrack CD, which I strongly recommend listening to. I personally think Lavoie's simply brilliant here, and there could be no more adequate choice for this particular song. But it's ultimately a matter of opinion and personal tastes. :) I also love Josh - whenever I even remember his rendering of Se and Remember I begin misting up. :P

However, this video says so eloquently what every parent needs to understand -- there comes a time when you have to start letting go -- slowly at first and then gradually until the child becomes an adult and is capable of living on his or her own.
This is the best version in my opinion! Josh's is good but I think he uses too much vibratos. He's like singing the song out beautifully but not letting his emotion drives the song. I listened to this song from cirque du soleil at the first time. My heart floated with Mathieu's voice. But for josh's, just a great song to me. no tears.

Whats so wonderful is that Mathieu sings the song in a higher key than Josh Groban. I am a big Josh Groban fan and think he truly is a brilliant singer, but to hear this song in a higher key is so much more exciting for me!! I performed a silk act for a local circus and for some reason my music didn't go through, so they picked out a random songs for me (this one) and the entire crowd and the performers were so touched because they thought that me crying was apart of my act. this is my favorite song.

I miss the deepness from Lawrence's performance, though he has more sophisticated voice in classical ways. In my opinion too much heavy vibration kills the soul of the song. It can't be performanced better than this, it seems Mathieu truly believes what he sings. Just perfect!

People need to understand that this shit is sung live. No edits, no special effects... Lavoie is probably one of the best male vocalists in the world today. He's not even trying with this song! I've heard this guy live in Quidam and Varakei and he is absolutely amazing. His range seems limitless.

Mathieu has a clear gift. He expresses the raw passion of this song. I used to work for Cirque, & I have listened to this song a hundred times. Each time gives me chills. Josh Groban, while also clearly and remarkably talented, is so trained that he renders this song lifeless. In my opinion. But to each her or his own.

I must say it, my friend Mathieu is the best Let me Fall singer. I'm disappointed about the Quidam show in Monterrey, Mexico (January 2008). There is not comparison between the current singer and Mathieu. Mr. Lavoie, you have an amazing voice!!!!!

Yep I totally agree. Everyone that is reading, you have to realize that this is live and in an open air environment where it's hard to hear the background music. Mathieu's voice just blows me away while Josh's voice is just meh...
The Josh character has a more rich voice, but this cat, like the others have said, brings emotion to it. Music is always better when the singer adds emotion to the music or has fun playing it. It's just something that's there.
Apart from the fact that Mathieu has a much more original voice than Josh, I believe everything Mathieu sings. There's so much emotion there, he actually 'feels' everything he sings. Josh Groban does not.

Yes it is the the singer from Varekai. However, Mathieu does sing this track on Cirque du Soleil, Quidam's soundtrack.

Mathieu was Quidam's singer from 1996 till 1998 and because the CD was released in 1997 he was included as male singer.

Yes it is. Josh Groban is vastly superior. This Mathieu does not have a strong voice. He is straining to reach the high notes and sounds flat in some places. Not so good.

1000% agree with agnes4ines. That's exactly how I would say it.
I don't see how you could say his voice isn't strong, and there's NO way you could say his voice isn't POWERFUL.
I say look at it this way. Even if he does sound a bit strained, I believe that works all for the better. I can feel the utter need. The desire.
I don't know what other people feel when they listen to him singing this. But I feel completely connected. I can just close my eyes, and...let myself fall.

I must say it, my friend Mathieu is the best Let me Fall singer. I'm disappointed about the Quidam show in Monterrey, Mexico (January 2008). There is not comparison between the current singer and Mathieu. Mr. Lavoie, you have an amazing voice!!!!!

You left out the rest of the act (Mathieu doesnt do much singing. Actually, he just makes weird noises that are usually played on guitar in Quidam) You should hear the screams at the vey end of the act when isabelle does the isabelle (its a trick named after her)

Josh Groban is amazing, and I actually like him more than Mathieu. On the Varekai DVD he was great and his voice was filled with emotion and pizzaz, but here it lacks a lot.

Yep I totally agree. Everyone that is reading, you have to realize that this is live and in an open air environment where it's hard to hear the background music. Mathieu's voice just blows me away while Josh's voice is just meh...

The Josh character has a more rich voice, but this cat, like the others have said, brings emotion to it. Music is always better when the singer adds emotion to the music or has fun playing it. It's just something that's there.

You can't even compare Josh to Mathieu.
Apart from the fact that Mathieu has a much more original voice than Josh, I believe everything Mathieu sings. There's so much emotion there, he actually 'feels' everything he sings. Josh Groban does not.
Don't get me wrong, I think Josh is a great singer, but he lacks the emotion Mathieu has

Yes I definately agree. Josh's voice is like 1 in a 1,000 and Mathieu's voice is like 1 in a million.
Plus Im not too fond of Josh's overuse of his vibrato.

I can't agree. Omg, are you saying that Mathieus voice is more rare than Josh's? Josh is the only in this world who can sing like that. He's just unique.
His voice is way purer, stronger, more beautiful and he is incredible singing live. And I think his dramatic version of this song is actually better.
Josh may not give the emotion, but I also don't see much emotion here with Mathieus.
Just an opinion...please don't get me wrong! :) Sorry for my english...
