This was the song that brought me to Dionne Warwick. What a voice and what a legacy she
has left us. She deserves the 5 grammies she has won....remember, she won 2 that year..and was the first singer to win both POP & R&B... I was only 12 when this aired. I wish I
could have seen it when it was originally broadcast. ( I don't even know anyone on the grammy awards now...how our music culture has deteriorated.
@stevenk79 Also lets not forget that earlier that evening, Donna Summer won the first Grammy ever awarded in the Rock Category - Best Rock Vocal Performance Female. SHe has won a total of 5 Grammy Awards - so apparently losing in this category didn't hurt her or her career one bit. There's enough to go around for everyone!
@pgproductionsinc Donna won her First Grammy for Last Dance the year before for R & B. I also feel that she deserve this award for Pop, the Grammys were a little too over zealous with Dionne's comeback .
@48blackman Yes I totally agree with you. This was about as bad as Donna not getting the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal the year before for Mac Aurthur Park, they gave to Anne Murray...Too this day she has never won best pop female.. despite being the best pop vocalist for years.
I always wondered who the background vocalists were. If you listen from 6.15 to 7.05, the background vocalists really brought Dionne's voice out ... easily the best version of the song ever, Bravo !!!
the merit of a song isnt based on HOW MANY times its played on the radio or in the disco...its based on the individual experience: How did you feel when you heard it?Does it still bring those feelings back? Can it unite or divide.? Nat king Cole had made some of the greatest music on this planet ,but u dont hear it much on the radio...but people still know the tunes and always speak positively of him and them...
Strange... Of all these songs, including the winner doesnt get much play! Donna's Bad Girls is still being played on radio, movies, Tv and clubs!!! To ME... that is THE biggest and best song!!!!!!
This was a difficult year for Grammy female nominees... and perhaps a vote between two others split the vote and Dionne emerged. Some say that that is what happened in 1985- that Tina Turner and Prince split the vote with their albums and Lionel Richie emerged victorious (a good album, produced well but with nowhere near the artistry on Purple Rain or Private Dancer)
Perhaps Donna Summer should have won. However, Dionne Warwick capped an amazing comeback with this album and song and became a sentimental favorite because of it. The Grammys love a comeback (ask Tina Turner or Eric Clapton). Both ladies' careers survive until today and so, no harm done.
Donna Summer deserved to win. It was a landmark album of quality and of commercial success. Melissa Manchester would be a close second in my book for "Don't Cry Out Loud" which proved she could sing AND act. The "Dionne" album has some nice moments but some awful Barry Manilow bloatedness, including "I'll Never Love. . . "
@stevenk79 Who really won ? DIONNE WARWICK ! Her powerful and amazing song I'll Never Love This Way Again beated all other songs (including Bad Girls!). She deserved this grammy after years of trying and waiting. So please stop with comments like that.
@dommenkosi There was some waiting, yes, but maybe you don't know that she won in that category twice before (for Do you know the way the San Jose and I'll never fall in love again). She also won the r&b female vocal award the same night as this video...Love this performance!
@vegasbaby92 None of the other singers have Dionne Warwick's voice and style. They're wonderful performers but Dionne was in a class by herself. Now if Sarah Vaughan or Gladys Knight had been contenders than it would have been a different story sans "politics".
I remember this as being Dionne's comeback song. Yes, the other female singers her were up for the award were and are great, but still this was for best female vocal performance. It is a beautiful song and I knew the first time I heard it it was a great song and perfect for Dionne. I've heard her long ago in concert with Burt Bacharach and it was wonderful. Deja Vu also won a grammy for her that year as well. She is one of the best of all time.
Dionne Warwick is the best R&B singer! I still remember her once saying "Malaysia is my second home" when she did a concert in Malaysia. I hope she really meant it coz I really want to see her! Better off in person!
The Grammys over did it this night with Dionne.. she deserved to win R & B, but this should have went to Donna.

Kenny Rogers said it..."once she sings it, there's no need for anyone else to even try".
How true that was then. I love her, love her, love her. Thank you Dionne for the music!!
