@ThomasDeLello The repro Ardun hemi heads and intake run about $14,000. So they are pretty well out there. The engine will sound different as well. I love the early Ford V-8 because of its legend, mystique, and the challenge it presents. My first experience with the flathead was my brother's 51 Ford pickup in 1986. It ran hot and my hot rod friends made fun of it. Learning how to make them go fast proved very rewarding and has been great fun. There is a video of my 34 5 window on here too
@ThomasDeLello Yep. I like the look of the Ardun, but the sound of a flathead. I looked at fitting the foam valve covers from Speedway, but decided to do one better and make patterns to cast my own and an adapter to fit them over the stock head. the stock heads flow great with some mods that cost far less than buying modern race heads.
Not really... you could burn out an exhaust valve or damage the seat. You don't want to do that to a set of Arduns, even if they're re-pors... that's for sure.
@ThomasDeLello We don't have to worry bout burned valves or seats. The valves are still in the block. The Arduns are covers we had cast which fit over the highly modified stock heads.
As long as the valve cannot be seen while looking into the exhaust stack, the valves won't burn anyway
I don't care what condition this thing is in, I'm 21 years old and it sounds soooo amazing!!! that 41 will be a showstopper! no doubt!! The funny thing is I'm a foreign motor guy, I'm personally into 4 bangers... but again nice ride!!!! I'm jealous :)
@brand0nwhite thanks! i like 4 bangers as well. mainly the old model T's and so forth. but the modern engines are works of art and well suited to hot rodding. i have seen some quad 4's dressed up with two twos in an old Ford and they look great!
if bonny n clyde had this engine in their ford they could have escaped the coppers way better n wouldnt have been killed. by the way a great car but why is an alien sitting in the backseat ? questions over questions...
@markuslebt the seat is from a 1940's Navy jet. Probably an F9F Panther. the headrest was gone so we used an nos prop spinner that had not been drilled for blades and turned it around backwards to make a headrest. bonnie and clyde favored ford v-8 cars because they were faster than other factory cars. duntov chose the ford v-8 to make his overhead valve conversion because he noted the stock engine would rev to 5,000 rpm. i read that in an article about his life.
wow thats so cool. i now know what i want. a touring sedan from the 30s would be awesome as a project. both to show off and to rod around as city or travel car. like buick century, ford v, or a duesenberg or chevy, whatever is available...
yeah, it burns oil. the old engine is worn out. we are collecting parts now for a rebuild. the engine was bored .020 in the 50's so it's long overdue. the old iron rings dont last long. it's still a flathead. the arduns are new, and simply covers i had cast. its still pretty fast for a flathead with an oil burning problem.
Well... you can get repro Arduns now, but that's got to be expensive.

@CaptJackSpeed One of my friends has an original, unused set of Ardun heads. I wonder what they are worth...

This is neat. Real neat. Thanks for the background info. I like the ingenuity of the reversed prop headrest.

Yes, I have looked at Hot Rod mags from the 50's and still have a few that my dad bought back in the day.
Thanks for the comments.
