Lol oh bob....how the hell can you say Queen were not expected to steal the show....THEY WERE THE BLOODY SHOW. Queen had been rocking the world audiences for the last 10 years before that.
@vespasianlegx11 Don't get me wrong I fucking LOVE Queen. I've all their LPs, got books on them & a 93' guild Brian May red special guitar. Went to see Brian when he gave a lecture on his book & actually met him, shook his hand & all so Queen ranks pretty high up there in the list of good things. The Beatles however are in a class by themselves & no one can touch them even Queen have said this.
So Freddie knew here he was HIV positive & still was so outstanding, totally amazing! I read he lived with the knowledge he was HIV positive for 7 years before his death.
I dont want an IMPERSONATOR OF FREDDIE I WANT A NEW FREDDIE
Maybe now you all see the difference, if you have been following Queen Extravaganza final audition videos, you will know by now the power of RAPHAEL DONADIEU'S vocal and the intensity of his performance presence, and how it is far more apt to LIVE PERFORMANCE than Marc MARTEL or Adam LAMBERT or GARY MULLEN
@zapkvr two things, first: the Beatles broke up in 1970 not 1972 so that'd be 4yrs not 6yrs. Second: you say the Beatles are nothing by today's standards. If by today's standards you mean all the shitty music around now? that's offensive to the Beatles. Especially when they're STILL regarded as not only the greatest rock band of all time but as the single greatest act in music/entertainment history. Need I say more...
@zapkvr Actually no they didn't get booed the MC didn't want Queen onstage anymore so he told the audience he'd bring out a good old Aussie band. The audience said "hell no" they still wanted Queen. The MC insisted on the Aussie band & pushed them to the crowd by which point the people just acquiesced, but they didn't get booed offstage.
Queen's performance of Radio Gaga that day is undoubtedly the best moment in rock history. I feel like crying with joy every time I watch it. The world misses you Freddie
@progfan71 a little note.... is the best moment in MUSIC history, not only in the rock..there is only a bunch that could be near of this gig...the 3 tenors singing nessun dorma
@talisayon23 Well the Beatles stopped performing live in 1966, six years before they broke up. The stones are still performing live after forty years. The Beatles were NOTHING by today's standards. NOTHING.
I think that the whole Live Aid and Live 8 ideas were incredibly naive, yet Queen were the miracle...the magic, that could make such ideas really work.
the most amazing thing about this performance is that this is not a queen concert, yet look at the crowd!!never ever seen crowd participation quite like this before!most of the big stars, megastars etc, played live aid,but queen just blew the place apart with possibly the best live performance in history
When he says he didnt expect Queen to be the one to steal the show I thought to myself after seeing Queen in concert in the earlier days I would'nt have expected any other Band too when asked today what the best concert I had been to and i went to alot in the 70's my answer is QUEEN
RE: Movie I believe that they will have 2 use Freddies Voice. Just Like Tina Turner & Ray Charles- no one could come close 2 their sound.
I like Sacha 4 the Role. Height won't matter. Sacha is a good looking guy when he is'nt in Borat get up. Note: Comedy is actually harder than Drama. "...and, you know, we were a bloody good group". Understatement of the century Roger, the press might have hated you but the continued record sales and radio airplay say it all.
@freddiesfan1 well I hope that those close to him have a say on how the role should be done,if he tries to make him like "Bruno" there better be someone to put a stop to it.
@MrSoulauctioneer guess so,but the movie is supposedly Queens early years right up to Live Aid,and Johnny Depp is pushing 50 years old now,and Sascha is almost 40..ideally they should comb Zanzibar looking for his 21-30 yr old doppleganger..but that might be too weird for people who knew Freddie and involved in the project. I haven't read if they were going to be singing or lip synching though,if they have to find someone who sounds exactly like Freddie this movie will never get made.
@62rockin Queen has the magic of very few groups that is pass through generatons, despte the death of the frontman, and yes Queen is of another dimension....Made In Heaven
Cant wait for the movie. hoping it protrays Freddie Mercury as an artist and performer and a good human being. queen changed music world wide and brought people together, they have two big hits played at top sports events, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, AND WE WILL ROCK YOU, and also many numerous cover versions covered by great artists.
It was nothing different than what they had done before, it's just that this time they were performing for fans of other bands. To us full on Queen fans it's just another normal performance in their arsenal.
@Kalabanano true that. the "greatness" of Queen @ live aid is intangible too - they certainly didn't win over montreal '81 like this. the context of them being pariahs after sun city or "dinosaurs" to non-fans by '85, the "global" relevance they wrung out of Hammer To Fall, WATC in the context of the broadcast/venue/event nature. All this under 20". It's not easy:D plus the added context of who's got the leg up @ dawn of stadium rock-pop that's now since become de rigeur~
@Kalabanano also it's quite strange as soon as Bo Rhap starts, you feel an emotional vacuum being struck with the audience singing along. it might be combination of nerves and energy onstage felt by audience, more unusual because they didn't start @ high energy. it's a great display of how freddie can suddenly inject a strong emotionalism onto a cluttered, all purpose stage. maybe nostalgia for the song by '85 also helped to spark the sing along?
Listen up Good Geldorf!! LIVE Aid was Queen, take Queen out of the performers list and you would have been left with an average gig with average performances. Make no mistake, this gig was all about Queen. So stop playing down Queen's meteroric performance at Live Aid .......They conquered the world that memorable day and no one has ever been or will ever be close to Freddie's Majestic Performance.
Queen is so wonderful because of this one fact: No matter what kind of music you prefer, queen still sounds good, and they are a riot to watch live. There may be kings of pop, metal, rap, country, alternative, etc. But Queen just draws you in no matter who you are, they really cared about the audience, and worked at giving us what we loved!
Gid bless Queen, they were the band of the World!
In reviewing Live Aid in 2005, one critic wrote, "Those who compile lists of Great Rock Frontmen and award the top spots to Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, etc all are guilty of a terrible oversight. Freddie, as evidenced by his Dionysian Live Aid performance, was easily the most godlike of them all."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Roger Taylor is as big of a douche as Lars Ulrich.
Notice how Brian May gives all the credit to Freddie, and Taylor's only talking about "we" "we" "we" with this smug look on his face as if everyone contributed equally in the group.
Freddie forever, Brian forever, hell even John Deacon was damned solid, but fuck Roger Taylor. It's like God decided Queen was too awesome of a band and planted Bono's clone in it to make it a little less likable and epic.
@phlyingkow Wow, harsh! Everyone did contribute equally in the group, it's part of why they were so amazing, and of course, there's no denying Freddies magnificence! Roger has acknowledged it many times. Not sure where you're coming from. Queen was not simply Freddie, Queen was 4 unbelievably talented individuals, to say otherwise is to disrespect all of them. IMHO :)
@crtfyd Bollocks!!! You've got Geldof/Ure saying that their performance expected, which is a load of trash. Roger was responding with a plain statement of fact. He'd be lying if he said anything else.
Well I started a little bit later at 14,but i first heard of them at the age of 8,it was a night at the opera,my fav.by the way,now i am 33:)I'll love them till i f...die,sure of it:)))
It was a goodbye to the old and worse generation of musicians, it wasn´t Freddy alone. The Who and many others of the old generation couldn´t stand the test.
Speaking of Roger I've often watched the Live Aid performance and obviously, the first thing that comes to mind is Freddie. However, the second thing that comes to mind is Roger's superb drumming. There's a lot of really subtle drum fills and things like that. He didn't miss a beat.
geldof says no one expect queen to come out on top. I never expected anything other .If your a queen fan from the beginning, you already knew they were the greatest live band in the world and this just went to prove what true fans had known for years. i bet some thought shit we've missed the previous 14 years not me followed from start to end what an honor. miss you freddie in a big way
Funny thing is...I don't think Freddie was nervous at all...72,000 people at wembley and millions more watching at home? this gig was made for Freddie.
Listen up..........God decided to pick just a handful of people out of billions to put them on Earth with one sole purpose -- to entertain the masses with pure charisma and showmanship............Freddie Mercury was one of those people!
Anyone who doesn't like Queen should be labeled as a blasphemer. That band--all four members--were able to captivate and capture crowds and put them in the palm of their hand.
All those so-called "bands" that we listen to today should be grateful that Queen was there to influence their styles. ;-D
Unconventional and will never be topped as the greatest song of all time. Check out the Montreal Live vids in HD, the best performance of Bohemian Rhapsody of all time
Yeah, I agree.. totally boring.... I mean, who wants to see Freddie just capture the world in the palm of his hand, who wants to hear Briand and Roger and John just create great music.... yeah.. its boring, lets go listen to some other crap shall we, coz im sure that nothing will ever be as boring as this.......
"The last people everyone expected to be the most memorable were Queen--" That guy's quote was cut off! Who was the other 'people'? I guess it doesn't really matter. "Queen smoked 'em!"
There were two good things that happened in the mid 1980s. Freddie at the Live Aid concert in July 1985, and about a year later Diego Maradona and his Argentina lifting Copa del Mundo - the former an example of the greatest live rock concert and the latter example of the best World Cup to date. Thank you God for the 80s and may God rest Freddie's soul in peace.
1979 HS Graduate: Queen was and is the greatest Live band of all time. U2 is close with the Slane Castle performance. Maybe Pink Floyd..... You gotta have the "Live Voice"
And as you laugh John Denver also had the "Live Voice" Go home Mick
I remember this performance. I along with thousands of others stood transfixed. It was amazing. I got chills watching this performance, and I remember thinking...I'll never see this again. Thank heaven for You Tube and the internet.
It's from a show on the BBC called "The World's Greatest Rock Gigs". This performance by Queen was voted the greatest live gig in the history of rock and roll. And it was.
What a great performance. Pity that Live Aid didn't make things better in Africa, actually made things worse with all that free food coming in pushing the few remaining viable African farmers out of the market.
last band anyone expected to be good? FUCK YOU geldolf or whatever the fuck your name is

Speaking of Roger I've often watched the Live Aid performance and obviously, the first thing that comes to mind is Freddie. However, the second thing that comes to mind is Roger's superb drumming. There's a lot of really subtle drum fills and things like that. He didn't miss a beat.
youvebeenthunderstru 2 years ago 8
And he provided some great backup vocals too! He's one of the best backing vocalists ever.

geldof says no one expect queen to come out on top.

QUEEN WERE THE BEST THERE!!!!
drbrandovalentine 2 years ago 3
Anyone who doesn't like Queen should be labeled as a blasphemer. That band--all four members--were able to captivate and capture crowds and put them in the palm of their hand.
All those so-called "bands" that we listen to today should be grateful that Queen was there to influence their styles. ;-D

"The last people everyone expected to be the most memorable were Queen--" That guy's quote was cut off! Who was the other 'people'? I guess it doesn't really matter. "Queen smoked 'em!"
Kagatorium 3 years ago 7
