The numerous gods have been created by man out of great personalities in history. Even if you look at Indian people now, if you do something great for the villagers, they'll say your are a deity and they will start worshipping you. From my research I read Muslims say he was chief of the Jinn, even in Hindu scriptures he is called the Lord of the ghosts, and that ghosts used to follow him. However, I think then how could he be renowned in the human world? I do not confirm 100% friend. Take care.
