Its a different sound, and a different skill. Autotune isn't just put it on a track and the vocals are fixed... the autotune sound is what they are after, you can use autotune and have vocals still sound natural, its a matter of what sound you're after.

There's autotune, there's talkbox and there are also vocaloids, which are quite popular in Japan and probably in some regions outside of Japan. The vocaloid manufacturers take samples of the voices of certain people (most notably voice actors) and create the vocaloids out of them, so users can type in the lyrics and synthesis them to make them sound like they are singing.
