I just read about this in Wikipedia while I was looking up info on the Coventry Carol, and I *knew* someone would have the clock up on YouTube! :-)

Interesting, although that Tom is kinda creepy -- appropriate for a voyeur, I guess.

Saw this once in the flesh as a kid in the 70's while visiting family. I was a bout 8 years old and this is the first time I've seen it since. Most titillating!

Thanks for the info, didnt realise as it looks like plastic from the ground.... Being a kid that grew up in Coventry it was always exciting to wait for the hour to change to watch it. Filmed it as I now live in Canada and it was fun watching it again, even tho the comments were tongue in cheek, it still has fond memories for me.

steveleeson - what makes you think that Godiva etc. is made out of plastic?

A bit of history (of what I remember), the mechanism of the clock is from the old Market Hall tower that was damaged in the Nazi bombing of Coventry and the figures were made by students from the Lanchester College of Technology (now Coventry University) and everything constructed sometime in the 1950's.

Yeah, it's a bit kitsch, but it's a bit of fun and not to be taken too seriously :-)

One lovely piece of Coventry's history that they havn't ripped down yet. It must be untouched and never modified since the early eighties, I remember this as a nipper because the 'Tom' used to freak me out a bit.
