+1 on Malmsheim DZ. I'd say with the mismatch uniforms, about 2007ish. From the look of the leaf-less trees yet lack of snow or snivel gear, this is about March, in Germany. HMMWV ambulance and FMTV for a chute truck would be 1/10 SFG and I'd bet a lot of your money that ExNavy was a guest jumper from Unit 2. I like how you can hear the squealing tires from the Mercedes Benz test track in the background, too. Brings back memories...
Is there anyway to find out who the trooper nearest the rear of the door is? I am sure I have jumped with him. Any response is appreciated. Thank you.
Man I appreciate you loading this up, it brings back so many memories for me. I can actually feel the bird while sitting here watching your video. 24 of my 187 were from a UH1H. One of the guys in our unit was former SEAL as well.
I have a bunch exits in my log book from helicopters, many at Knox and Cambell. These guys had SF patches on their shoulder--what group? Also, how did you attach your camera to your helmet? I am considering doing an old goat operation with some former SF guys I ran with and I want to get it on video. Yes, I know that 71 year olds should hang it up, but I am really looking forward to this last jump. SSG 11th SFGP
the reason why its quiet is because a camera cant really take the sound of helicopters. but it can with parachutes/falling air w/e. Because the parachute kinda makes u slow down making u not fall as fast.
I got to jump from a huey. It was when I was at Ft. Lee Va. I got a Colonel's spot because he didn't make jump manifest so i was first jumper of my chalk. it was pretty sweet.
wow!!!!!!!. this brings back allot of memories. Last time I jumped was in Feb. 92. Sicily dz at Ft. Bragg, Most of my jumps where from C-130s. HHC , 37th Engr Bn. AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!!!!!!
I'm 13 and I'd love to become an paratropper when I get to that phase, but right now I'm not fit enough. I can't even do a pull up. I weigh around 155 -160. also can mexicans join the army because i happen to be one but i was born in the U.S and my parents were born in mexico. they will proberly make me run harder then the americans.LOL and also is jump school free.
hey Xxpokewangsta6xX well im just a private right out of basic im hispanic and im going to airborne school in june you could do whatever you want bro just make the right choices in life and yes airborne school is free as long as your in the military and they choose you to go to airborne school or your job requires that you go just because your mexican doesnt mean your limited to things you should be proud to be mexican...
Talk about a "blast from the past", a Blackhawk Blast that is! That is Malmsheim DZ. I've jumped that DZ many many many times while stationed with SOCEUR in the early 90's. Usually tailgates out of Chinooks but many Hollywoods out of Blackhawks like the video posted. The DZ was smaler then though, the area where the hangers are at was forest but the test track was still there. Thanks for the great video ExNavy!
I talked to a guy who did a static line jump from a balloon. It scared the crap out of him because there was no prop blast to blow his chute open. He fell what he thought forever before his chute opened. Heli jumps must be the same.
Finally got my tailgate chinook! CH-47 was by far the best jump I have ever done! I have jumped out of c-17s, c130s, uh-60s, and now a ch-47. AIRBORNE!
No, it sucks because you usually jump with -1 parachutes instead of the ol trusty t10's. I hate the -1's because you can only do a front PLF, and I suck at those. A t10 you can pull a slip and land on your side (way easier). But you only use t10's on the c17 and c130.
Affirmative on the SF tab. Judging by the mismatched uniforms and the fact that they are jumping onto a farm and not a military DZ, I believe that this is a Reserve unit. Yes, it is awesome to be floating like that after you realize that your parachute has opened normally and that you are going to live.
That is Malmsheim DZ in Germany. And those SF jumpers would either be assigned to SOCEUR or 1/10th SFG. Patch Barracks is home to SOCEUR and Panzer Kaserne is home to 1/10th SFG and both are nearby. I've jumped that DZ myself many times whiles assigned to SOCEUR in the early 90's. Usually UH-47 tailgates but occasionally Blackhawk blasts. It's only an 8 second DZ
Actually, I liked chopper jumps, especially off the ramp of a Chinook. The best part of jumping from a Huey or a Blackhawk is the ride up, sitting in the open door with your legs hanging out.
the laugh after the plf at the end priceless...
