  • oh my god i remember this when i was young and agree with everyone it was a dumping song but now as you are older the lyrics are powerfull and it makes you think of what your life could be if you were the dumper or are the dumped xxx fab tune

  • Didn't know there was a video for this song, use to hear this quite a bit on smooth jazz radio. Great Tune.

  • i remember having my heart broken & listening to this song over & over just to cry even more :( now, after many life experiences i'd be heart broken but would think, that guy didn't deserve me & I deserve to be loved & cherished, I hope my daughter doesn't feel the sting/pain of being heart broken but alas life does not spare any of us the reality of being hurt, and hopefully she'll be surrounded by friends and family to love her & get her through

  • I love this tune.

  • Me flipa.es todo un temazo.Los pude ver en Bcn y en directo son buenos,no como otros grupos, que en directo no valen para nada.

  • They played this to a full house in San Francisco last night. Awesome gig. Mark and Mike stayed on stage for about half an hour afterwards and shook hands, chatted and signed autographs. I've never seen a band do that. Got to shake their hands. Maybe for the last time.

  • @mgfaxlad Sounds like they were just as awesome as they were down in San Diego, though the Anaheim crowd was weak. Still, any Level 42 is stellar live and I'm grateful, after 23 years, to have see them twice. The only thing I was disappointed about was the end of the concert, it was like a perfect moment in time I would have like to have gone on forever, though I did get some great pics and video! Hopefully, there are enough great crowds to get them back over the pond a few more times!

  • @mgfaxlad i was there that night, youre so right i never seen a band stay that long like they did to sign autographs, take pics with nearly everyone in san francisco , they have so much love for their fans, what a damn amazing show, i waited 25 years to see them, i m planning to see them again in their UK tour !!!

  • @Honor1974 Hell yeah. UK tour. Need to keep my eye on that. They'll probably play Leeds or Mancs. Both less than an hour from my M&D's house. it was a great show. My 16 year old son was there and he's never seen 40-somethings rocking out like that. Once he got over the weird factor he loved it. Wish they'd played another hour-they have plenty of classic material.

  • @mgfaxlad yeah looking forward see them in the UK , i cant wait, i put some pics of the San Francisco show on my facebook , i can add you on my friends list if you like to see them and got some videos of them playing

  • TAKES ME BACK TO BEING a young man, now im 49, what happened to the last 37 years god it goes so quick. nice memories, wish i was 24 agen

  • I adore this song. Even now all these years on it brings a shiver to my spine when I listen to the lyrics. 22 when this first came out! Wow - a long time ago, but the memories come flooding back.

  • Love drum groove here .....

  • What a beautiful song, i don't know how I could have missed this one.

  • Fully agree with rchood7!! could not have put it better!

  • Brings back a thousand memories, just a lad enjoying the times. Level 42, Wham, Queen, Dire Straits, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Go West, Spandau Ballet and loads of others. The critics can say what they want, I thought the 80's were great! Thanks for posting

  • @scarfacerl The last decade of truly great PURE original music...we had it all: new wave, metal, fusion, brit pop, etc. Now everything is an homoginized hodpodge of everything that came before with little originality...granted there are a few exceptions, but nothing,be it the 60's of 70's truly defined a decade beyon the music of the 80's. I feel lucky to have been a teen during those years...aweome times!

  • @stonepolismusic I second that. Grew up in England listening to them. They're playing San Francisco Friday night and I got me 2 tickets. Introducing the next generation to Level 42. Told my son it'll be old farts and him. He's 16, about the age I was when I used to listen to their early funky stuff in the clubs back in Yorkshire.

  • @mgfaxlad Awesome! I just got done seeing them twice, both in San Diego and Anaheim, so I'm sure you will enjoy every moment they're on stage...and yes they play this tune! Simply incredible...cheers!

  • @stonepolismusic Can't wait. Been yonks since I last saw them. Leaving for the City in about 3 hours. Thanks for the update. Might be the last time they tour.

  • A real classic song, that makes me remember a time long ago !

  • where was this video shot at

  • @johnied8509 Yosemite National Park in California. Been there a few times, too. Off to see the band tonight in San Francisco.

  • I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE THIS SONG!!

  • I don't recall this song back then? I wonder where I was??? I love this song/video.Thanks for sharing it!!!

  • Very, very deep song...

Makes us think about all the ones we've already hurt...

  • allow me to be the first to say that this song reaches into my soul and rips my heart out. having been on the receiving end of someone i loved very much telling me that it's over, i feel like the song was written just for me...god, i love this song. i fumble for words to describe how it has affected my pysche...maybe i should just move on to say how much i love level 42...what has happened to all the level 42's, the culture clubs, the simply reds, the duran durans, and the go wests...

  • Haunting nostalgia that erases the years, all i'm left with is goosebumps and bittersweet memories........

  • this man is the greatest bass player in the world....i strongly agree...chewing a gum while singing and hammering a bass guitar is no easy thing...i love it...

  • it was in my tender years when i first heard this cut....i felt engrave to it..somehow it has gve me a clue to take care of sweet lady out there...

  • 1986 in "Runing in family album" !

  • My Italian colega said that guy is best bass player in the world

  • @vildakas, for sure we can't take out his credits mainly in the 80's, but there are other bass players references like Victor Wooten, Michael Manring, Zuzo Moussawer, Flea, Jaco Pastorious, Nico Assunção which could be said they are better than him. Even so, I still like to listen Level 42 :)

  • top tune

  • "I LOVE THIS!!!"

  • I got a pretty good voice so i'm told and i love to sing this on Karoake and it's always gets a good reception and people saying wow it's years since i heard that song forgot how good it was/is!

  • Top band.....brings back memories of my youth : )

  • one of the best pop song of Level 42. Remember the time 1987

  • oh... most great song ever, i have 20 years old, and is one of my prefer songs, its a great composition, arreingments, feeling...everything is coolest, i want to agree to my personal list of songs to play...

  • Reading all these heartfelt comments which are obviously from men, I am so used to men being unemotional and unable to express love (maybe thats just been my luck in relationships), well you have all reminded me that you have hearts too, but why don't you show your love when you have the chance? Its baffling - I will never understand men!

  • @BlushBabyBlushBaby men are emotional hun,its just not the done thing,we still live in a macho society,in my experience even today if you show any genuine emotion to a woman you are weak and pathetic? maybe im just bitter and twisted because despite my best (emotional) efforts im 40 and single! great track tho yeh!

  • @BlushBabyBlushBaby I dont think the enigma that you point to will ever be understood by women until the side of the equation that deals with real world expectations of men and treatment of men by women and the way they are either rewarded, judged, denied and or rejected by women from the day they are little boys until they are grown men is opened up and examined in the light of truth.

  • @BlushBabyBlushBaby Cont When we as a society finally have the courage to dispatch the veneer of political corectness and examine the deterioration of the family unit and to really look at how our boys are being raised and the quality, preparation and commitment of the mothers who rear and raise our boys, we will find the answers to the enigma you point to

  • @neechee5150 Does anyone know what the fuck this guy is talking about?

  • @level242 which guy?

  • Any idea where the outdoor footage was shot? It's beautiful!

  • @demrayhalen, it looks like California, or somewhere in the west... The States definitely...

  • gran tema...

  • This still pulls on the old heart strings! This is a great ballad from a great era!

  • me encanta la cancion.....

  • Not their best song. Let's be honest about it.

  • this song brings me back the best years of my life... I am now older but I understand much better the meaning of this song... anyway...sweet 80's....

  • i can remember this song its a good song.

  • que nostalgia me hace acordar a mi adolescencia,si lo habre bailado con alguien que bueno

  • La cancion que mas me gusta de LEVEL 42 !!!

  • @asmeza si, es una de las más bonitas, ES IMPRESIONANTE!

  • Sometime it's better to leave even if it breaks your heart. This is a great song.

  • "i would never leave..if i thought u couldnt stand the pain"..

  • merci !

  • Love. Loss. Heartbreak. Wonderful song ..

  • One of the saddest break up songs ever............

  • I can't cope with a band that can turn slap bass into something that makes you cry... Level 42 are the best

  • an all time classic for those who know what this song is about....

  • Oh Man... Einfach nur genial.

    Hier werden Erinnerungen wach...

    Danke fürs Hochladen

  • This song breaks our hard into pieces ..makes you want to jump in front of a train...jeezzz ..=)

  • Excelente Level 42, unos lentos imbatibles, ... y fue un grupo que no descolló o no tuvo tanta fama como otros ... pero su musica y performance fue excelente.... "LENTAZOS"

  • i love the 80's best times ever

  • Pra cuando en ARGENTINA.

  • what solo voice do mike lindup use here???? on his dx7?? in the intro? thanks for help on the name of this solo lead sounds its great with human voice in it!!!

  • uma musica que sempre me acompanha em todo o lugar!!!

  • @dredgie: listen mate! my life has been on a level 42 soundtrack since fuckin johnny craven gave up the newsround gig.

i've done glue, kestrel (normal and super) ecstasy, turnip peelings (in jail) cake, yellow bentines, clarky cat, and smack.

your mocking tone could put me on a downward but unbeknownest to you i'm actually a successful manager in one of the countries leading retailers call centres, so who has the last laugh me and the level 42 or you and swampy and the terrorists, you decide.

  • Yellow Bentines lol. Ever done cake?

  • Comment removed

  • @dredgie not really bloke, 2 weeks before my aunt had been in an accident going to a swan rescue centre, her and 2 swans "diogenes & cinders" were involved in a bump and shunt on the m25. diogenes died and cinders had a bad neck for the rest of her life. she didn't give a flying fuck about the scene or the hit parade/fashions of the time, so i turned up in some slacks and a suit jacket (pastel shades) had the level on a cassette and she was crying, played the song and she combined misery and sad

  • this reminds of times in my life when failures have surrounded me like some bad wolves, 1983 my childrens toy company went bust because of an potentially lethal yo-yo we were selling at the time. we had to pull them, trouble was i had ALOT of money invested with a chinese manufacturer. ontop of that my partner darren fell in love with one of the men who was taking furniture out of our house (that was being reposessed), i ended up living in a vauxhall chevette. it's over came on the radio i wept

  • I feel your pain sir, it's a very emotional song. But I'm almost positive you would have felt much better after that emotional outburst. Emotionally, you must have been going through so many emotions all at once.

  • @niallkennedy23

You are sharing way too much personal information. I understand what songs bring back but for your own sake be a little bit more discrete about what you release onto the internet.

Apart from that; you ran a toy company in 1983 and are 34? That's impressive, unless you put a fake age up in your profile?

  • Perhaps no better song to portray the anguish and pain of breaking up. Remarkable and still wonderful all the years later. Thks Mark, Mike, Wally, Phil & Boon!

  • Wow!!! A real smooth explaination...wonder how things turned out?

  • :'-(

  • na al die jaren nog steeds kippenvel bij dit fantastische nummer

  • Listening to this song now has many different feelings. Back in 87 I was young (15/16)it was just a "dumping song" now 23 years later it makes me think of what I have done, how the others have faired and (at times) what a twat I was.

  • think we all do that, its natural, we only learn by out mistakes

  • how many lads have heard this months after dumping their girlfriends and actually thought - they wernt that bad, i was just an awkward c*nt !!

    great tune

  • Best band of the eighties by a mile. still going strong. get a ticket and go see them. Class is permanent.

  • @willmillr6

Absolutely right that Level 42 was the best band of the 80's. Their song writing and sound were tops above everyone.

I'd love to see them but they never come to the States!

  • Muy buena la banda luis de ARGENTINA.

  • Thanks for the upload bro...mean ass breakup song. It reminds me of my girl JULIE. Bittersweet!

  • That was and still is a great song!!!

  • sad song......... :'(

  • I was 20 when this song was first out in 1987. Sweet memories as a young man, and I don't feel much older now at 43. Time zips by, but this song sends me right back. The lyrics are sweet and the 80's synth is sweeping with emotion towards the end. Feel the tears,

I can feel the tears, running through the years.

  • @rchood7 you're right in that ... i'm a few yrs older than you but i pretty much feel the same about all the 'old' 80s and even 70s music i grew up with ... i really enjoyed this band

  • @rchood7 here fuck of man your a total bell end....if i knew who you wre id spark ya .....your a total fuckin weng !!

  • @MrThornton23 whats ur problem, did rchood7 offend you or are you just a total fucking nutter

  • @rchood7 Nice sentiment, and as a 29 year old who was a child in the 80's, I have many of the same feelings too :D It was a beautiful era for diverse pop music, with some great vintage sounds and wonderful players.

  • @rchood7 This is probably the first decent comment I've ever seen on YT. And I know exactly how you feel.

  • Magiczna melodia..juz mam za soba muzyke pop, ale to jest wyjatkowo piekne....

  • Sweet song.

  • I LOVE IT (LLL)

  • I grew up listening to Level due to my older brother - can't thank him enough!

  • Mark King there wearing his Puma Kings......put a donk on it.

  • Muchobuncho435 A.K.A shit4brains.....you must have less brain than kurt cobains garage wall.

  • gotta agree soundboyyye muchobuncho35 is just a troll the turd is just trolling for people to reply, ignore him, he is not worth our time, he is an ignorant mass of cat shit best buried in a neighbors yard that you do not like. Best, Bill

  • Om stil van te worden..

  • @munchobuncho435 "shit song".... you're a shit-licker. LoL

But seriously, these guys were awesome for their time. And anytime, really. Mark is the shit. Bass Player Magazine knows too.

Anyway, don't be harsh. Not their 'best' work, but pretty song. Don't be a dick. =)

    Peace.

  • This stuff inspires me to wait wait wait wait for a woman until im free of jealousies, lusts etcetera.

  • God dammit, what a hard and sincere song, pretty good.

  • QUE TEMA. MUY BONITO.

  • love this song - very appropriate right now.

  • complete heartbreak, if anyone has every loved someone and had to let them go , this is the song . My life will never be the same .

  • i can relate to this song , its so hard to walk away when you love some1 but they dont feel the same , but you ave to pick up the pieces and start again . such a powerfull mean

  • Is that Banff National Park(Canada) in the background behind Mark :45-1:17? It looks like from the pictures I've seen.

This song holds up even today for the meaning its represents.

  • god i love this song.didnt think i would find it on here.its really made my day thanks for posting it.

  • reminds me of my 1st snog lol

  • This was the song my ex-wife asked me to listen to in a note she left me as she ran off with a guy from her work.

  • not good mate. what a fucking dear john letter!

  • Comment removed

  • thats nice of her

  • COLD SHIT MATE

  • Wow that's some hard cold shit...

  • sorry to hear that, hope u managed to move on with your life

  • this song takes me right back to a girl I used to be in a relationship with and loved, but I fell out of love with her somehow. At the time we shared a lot of love and she was without pride and ego to a degree that we shared alot of honesty together. The words of this song went thru my head just b4 I finished the affair and ever since I have occasionally thought of where and what she is doing these days, only to know that she is safe and doing well...

  • I remember she used to cry so much because of her love for me...but I say that without seeming to be big headed it was a deep love more for her than it was for me and I have never found in all my other unions a love that was that honest, she was truly in my opinion an "Angel" Iam touched that I had the good fortune to love someone back who really knew how to give so much love and affection

  • very proffound words... from the heart..lovely

  • That's a really nice comment....

  • thank you

  • strange but i went throught the same 25 years ago - i broke her heart when i finished the relationship - we've just reunited - we're both wiser and i've had chance to say sorry - that means so much!

  • thanx for that iveco...nice to see it turn out well for You alas I won't be getting back with my ex it's definately over but the same thing happened to me as well so what goes around comes around...best wishes...

  • thanks...

  • Excellent song.Mark King is such a top singer as is Level 42 a top group.

    Lyrics are very sad though.

  • JUST TWIST THE KNIFE MORE IAN

  • really beautiful song... great group

    just love the words.

    Thankyou.

  • there was a fantastic live version of this song in jakarta on youtube . it vanished before i could mp3 it....oh well!

  • Phil Gould has always been one of my favorite drummers. I just love this groove.

  • breathtaking scenery joined by a stunning love song,no matter what you say or do as the song says...its over.

  • I understand that the song is a break up song but unfortunately for my family this song is closely linked to my brothers suicide, so when I hear the lyrics they offer up a whole new meaning.

  • One of the best UK singles from 1987. Mark and the boys demonstrate that they are more than capable of producing a powerfully emotional track that cuts straight through the heart. The class of this song is evidenced by its profound ability to still touch so many of us through its lyrical content and vocal performance. Stunning stuff!

  • forestgumpaed.....wonderful song from the funk and soul band,a song that reminds me of how many times ive broken up in all my years, check out some of there early stuff, worth listening to.

  • I think it depends on your frame of mind whethe rit's sad-I was very sad listening to it when my relationship ended-but now don't feel so bad.

Beautiful view-and the breathtaking scenery isn't bad either :)

    Sorry-but Mark IS gorgeous!!

  • Its filmed in Laramie/CA

  • my ex left me for someone else last year, he was actually engaged to both of us at the same time, his lies got too much for him and he confessed all. I played this song over and over

  • so sorry to hear that i left my fiance two weeks ago not for any one else just not working this track is just to much to bear so painful ,gerry
