try to find a namco Negcon controller through ebay and you can compete with those scores i am sure

you should google a picture from a Negcon : it has a different shape and functionalities : if you want to turn you have to twist your controller and there's an option in each wipeout ( except 64 & psp & ps3) where you can adjust the angle of twisting : so it's smoother than the normal dpad. Moreover you can pitch nose ship separatly with dpad ( left and right arrow don't work) only up & down arrow ) but it's independant from the twisting.

How is a negcon going to help? IIRC WipeoutXL/2097 were purely digitally-controlled games. The analog PS2 controller doesn't work with anything but the D-Pad, and when you use the D-Pad it's purely "full turn left, full turn right" functionality.

NeGcon is an analog controller made by Namco that pre-dates the original Dual-Analong/Dual-Shock controller that Sony made. The very first Wipeout game had NeGcon support, as well as XL/2097, 3, and Fusion. It has analog left and right twist, analog shoulder buttons, and two analog face buttons.

if your venom looks like phantom , the possible reason is you are playing on your pc . Here it's regular Pal playstation no cheat code.
