  • Thanks for the link

  • I'm waiting for Julius the alleged "retard" to come on here and say that he remembers the old Sears building and remembers the newscast...when in reality, he wasn't even born yet when all this happened.

  • My old man worked 30 years in the warehouse. I have to forward this to him!

  • My Dad worked ther for at least 20 years part time almost my whole family worked there

  • Facebook has Group called

FRIENDS OF THE SEARS CLOCK TOWER ON ROOSEVELT BLVD.

  • Wow i live around this place

its just a bunch of stores now

  • I worked there for 11 years (10/73-1/85) on the 2nd (tools) and 3rd (women's clothing) floors. I didn't live in the area when it was imploded, but I watched it on TV and bawled my eyes out when it happened. It was there even before the Boulevard, which is why the road turns at that point. t's a REAL SHAME that the tower couldn't be saved. It was such a landmark! BTW, I remember the giant red telephone was on a billboard in an operator's hand and moved up to her ear. The phone number: JE5-????.

  • JE3-3300

  • I am humbled in the presence of greatness. I am not worthy!

  • I never knew that it was on fire !! I used to work there after work 1079-1981. Was promoted to "Red badge" Employee 48587. Had to enter it everytime I made a sale !!!!!!

  • Remember this well. Stood across the Blvd. by friends hospital with our police/fire scanners watching it. Then when they imploded it we watched it from Cardinal Dougherty High's field.

  • I used to work there part time in 1989-1990 as a binloader. It was the most fun job I've ever had and if they didn't "downsize", I'd STILL be working there!

It's kinda hard to tell how MASSIVE that building was! On the 8th floor, where I worked, it could take you a loooong time to walk from the front to the back! It also amazed me that you could see Center City and the 3 Cederbrook (near where I live) apartment towers from there! Beautiful wood floors, high ceilings, thick columns... *cries*

  • I worked on the 9th floor we useto ride the go-carts and the mini bikes in section 9 we worked in section 7 we used to ride them down the isle THATS HOW BIG THIS PLACE WAS!, imagine a kid looking at 75 mini bikes and 75 go carts and no ones around...just one story...

  • Sounds cool - I wish I worked on that floor!

Not in the section I worked, but they had Sega Genesis consoles on my floor - I worked with a couple of guys who used to steal 'em by tucking 'em under their shirts... One day, we were walkin' out the front door when we got stopped by security. Needless to say - GAME OVER! Lucky for me, I wasn't into stealing, so I didn't have anything on me. They, on the other hand, got locked-up and fired! They must've thought nobody was paying attention...

  • oh wow... i slightly... barely remember this being imploded. lol. i was pretty young.

and i agree, you are DEFINITELY from philly. <3

ps. does anyone know if they used to stick a christmas tree on top of that??? i think they did...

  • I don't ever remember a christmas tree there but do you remember the giant red telephone near the roof on the side of the warehouse? and of course the smell of the pretzels and popcorn when you walked in and the ball that the vacum cleaners would keep spinning and floating in the air for display!

It really sadden me and alot of people I know who just loved that building when it came down

  • When did it close as a store, because I vaguely remember being brought to it with my dad but I don't know if that was even possible?

  • i remember that day like yesterday.i was on a nearby roof at work looking at it.also i live a few blocks from the tower.

  • awesome vid i have seen the implosion vid but not this

i was born in a hospital that was imploded-the Calgary General hospital

  • Love your Philly accent! Thanks for the great video & interesting commentary.

  • Great video and commentary. The stories you have of this place from when you were younger remind me exactly of the type of stories I have of what my friends and I did at Byberry/Philadelphia State Hospital before it was demolished.

  • i remember i was coming home my my first day back in school when I saw it burning and I was also there for the October 30, 1994 demolition

  • Nice video, brings back memories, I also worked there (my 1st job as a picker)

  • I was a nose picker

  • I have No Fears or Tears In Sears
