What I don't understand is the route they took. Was it ever determined where in the south cousin Eddie lived? If so, why didn't he just take 57 down and bypass St. Louis. It would have shaved an hour or two off of the trip. He never stopped at The Arch so I am guessing he went through St. Louis and never stopped. Why bother? I guess they needed something funny in East St. Louis and damn the accuracy.

@Tippy2forU He lived in Kansas and they took I-70. It's the right route. I-80 west out of Chicago goes through Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming, and Clark had to pick up Ellen's aunt in KS. They probably took 55 down to St. Louis and 70 once they hit the city. After that they went to Colorado and somehow got down to Arizona. That part of the movie looks like a bunch of two-lane desert roads, which is about the only way to get south from I-70 without hitting Vegas.  That movie came later...
