  • Great.

Please, can you tell me how many time need to melt the iron?

    Thank You.

  • First guy on youtube I seen use all the safety gear :)

  • Hello I'm from Brazil, which the crucible material is made?

  • Hello! Great job! What is the pot for the molten iron made of?

  • @CsaptukEst ,

The crucible is made of graphite. Actually there are better furnaces and methods for melting iron. The furnace in the video is really better suited for brass/bronze/aluminum. Iron really pushes its limits.

  • "ta da" i lold

  • are you familiar with melting fired rifle brass(brass rifle cartridges). ive read that it contains 30% zinc and i dont know how the vapors escaping effects the zinc percentages and how it effects the brass. do you have any suggestions.

  • @Runescapeguides110

I have melted bullet casings. A component of brass is zinc. Brass also contains lead and copper. The color of the brass or bronze depends upon the ratio of the white metals (lead and zinc) to the red metals (copper).

  • Great job! Looks like you have many safety features thought-out and well executed...

  • Why does no one ever bother to say what they are casting? Were U making a bell, cornbread pans,Skillet?

  • @111fishkiller

The video is actually a compilatoin of two or three iron melting sessions. I don't recall everything, but I think I was reproducing some parts for turn-of-the-century electric fans. Collecting antique fans is another hobby of mine.

  • I like the expanded metal basket surrounding the pouring shank after the transfer from the furnace. Very clever means of containing a blowout at a point where it could occur.

  • @dhlocker

The scariest part is lifting the full cricible waist high and setting it into the pouring shank. A broken or spilled crucible at the wrong moment could be really painful.

  • Sweet man, it looks like the firey gates of hell opeing lol.

  • Sweet job Rick! nice clear vid.
