  • What is the name song by John Mcarthy play at the end of the video?

  • I just got the SX SST57 about a month ago. You can't really find a better guitar for $99 brand new. It's easily comparable to the MIM Strat, except that the 13" radius on the SX's vintage-style neck is easier for playing solos than the Fender's 9.25" IMO. It sounds just like a Strat too.

    $99 vs. $499 it's really no contest.

  • Wow! Dude from Creed!

Now I can play super lame pentatonic cheeseball solos!!!

  • Cut to some poor kid scratching his head. Try teaching instead of wanking.

  • I have been learning on my own completely getting everything from youtube and that was the first scale I learned and didnt undrstand the relavence of it or any scale for that mater and this vid just helped me alot! Thank you!!! I practice the blues scale in A which has one extra note then this one and the G major scale everyday does anyone have a sugestion of any other important scales to learn, its all apreciated!

  • Ok well my name is dave larocque and i was taught, played with and guitar tech'd for this brillant artist

  • I have two of these guitars with 24 fret necks and one with PRS type bird inlays, they are great i can recommend them

  • @carroj9 Really? I've got my eye one one.

  • @Johnnnybgoode Yes i got one the same as the one in the video and a natural maple coloured one with bird inlays on the neck, not sure if they still do those. lovely guitars and a reasonable price. Heavy solid well made, lovely sound and open to great customisation with coil cuts, Nice hipshot type PRS style tremolo too.

  • @carroj9 im looking to buy the sx isis guitar like the prs style is there anything you didnt like about it

  • He does things with a simple pentatonic scale that blows my mind...

  • The things mcarthy is showing here are for beginners, and Intermediate guitarist. Pentatonic's are part of a of any guitarist training reguardless of style of music.

I read a quot from Eddie Van Halen once in one of the rare interviews he did years ago. He said simply. Music is just sound that sounds good.

  • @larry001964 the day i see a beginner play that i will shit myself

  • shut up

  • fucking hate pentatonics

  • My first guitar was a SX Strat, and I still heave it. Very much guitar for the money. Thanks SX.

  • Is this advanced level or something jesus LOL

  • this is the first scale that ive learned for the stairway solo

and this is awesome use of it

  • Damnnnn!!!!!

  • Mccarthy is crazy!! He owns!!

  • What guitar is that?

  • That's the SX KY1.

  • i have this DVD is this Beginner Metal Guitar

  • i'm not a fan of the inlays on that sx. I own a few from rondo, so i'm a fan, but not of that model.

  • come to think of it, they may be stickers as a teaching aid. If that's the case, it's not a bad idea

  • they are

  • man he sound like zakk wylde.

  • because he is using the minor pentatonic, which zakk wylde is commonly known to use in most of his guitar playing.

  • john is a great guitarist n anyone who knows him would agree.

  • hi rockhouse its you know who. great job with everything you do. thanks for being the best learning series out on the market today. looking for even more in the future.. (how much is enough?? just a little more!!)

  • krazy man. i learn from rockhouse. he is crazy with guitars.

  • i been havin my eye on an sx, they sound great when (im assuming) are upgraded so ima get one =D

  • whoot...john mcarthy rocks

  • Rock House is an excellent instructional site, great job on the vid John !!!

  • i think this guy rocks, and his dvds have reallly helped

  • dude i know him he banned me afrom their site due i was a member and then i got in an argument and zapp then i was gone and havent heard since so whatever

  • Yep, learn the minor pentatonic scales and you'll be able to play 90% of all rock tunes. (yawn).

  • Sloppy picking and tapping. Ive seen his and doug marks' videos before and they all teach the right stuff, but it is disheartening to see that after all the work they put in, they are not even close to guys like malmsteen, greg howe, vai and the such. Ive actually seen better players in bar bands. Sorry, thats just an honest criticism.

  • Obviously there not gonna be as good as Malmsteen and Vai, nobody is.

  • I didnt expect them to be as good as Malmsteen and Vai, I said he is not even close. I was merely trying to say that I expect a little better technique from someone playing so long and teaching others. This guy isnt bad by any means, its just that he plays like a lot of people i know that have put in 3 years of playing with serious practice.

  • These guys are focusing on teaching OTHERS to play from the ground up- not showing of fancy licks to prove that THEY can play. I used some Metal Method tapes and they DO work. Also a guy like Doug Marks is older and was influenced by a different generation of guitarist.

  • I don't expect them to "show off" using their "fancy licks". The end solo is about as flash as this guy gets. Anyways, this guy knows his stuff. Why not get a more inspiring player to play it. Inspirtation is the best teacher. I have the same gripe when companies demo their gear with what I consider intermediate at best guitar players. I want to hear pros through that stuff!!!

  • u just shut up and see how good is him for a blues player...

  • Your a fucking moron.

  • That was an insightful remark that really added to the discussion. Thanks. By the way, its "you're", not "your".

  • yeah, his hammer on is kinda fucked sounding...hmm...its all in the hair!

  • I own most of the Rock House instructional DVDs. I have been learning from this method for over 2 years. Look into it: Rock House Method.
