Dude its just your Captivate I have one and I have never expeirenced any sort of "death Grip" I did however had that on the iphone 4 therefore i gave the phone to my little brother who loves it.
Super AMOLED is way clearer that TFT at angles and with fast motion scenes, TFT's have 4 layers for touch screens, super AMOLED have 2, side by side with iphone 4 there is no comparison. I think you squeezed your phone way to hard to get the signal to drop! ;)
I love the captivate but hate the horrible battery life. I'll take it though rather than be locked into the Apple way or the highway. Open source will win that case every time IMO.
my job gives me the ability to try different phones for extended periods of time and i can say that between the iphone 4 and the captivate. Ive had hardly any problems with either. at the end of the day i chose to stick with the iphone 4 simply based on the ease of use. its simple, to the point, takes phenomenal pictures and thats that.
I own a Captivate as well and noticed this myself. However, unlike the iPhone 4, the "death" grip on the Captivate is more like a "choke" hold. I go from 4-5 bars to 2-3 bars at the lowest with that gripping style. It does in fact lower the reception, but in no way kills it completely. I haven't had a dropped call holding it in that fashion as well.
Hmm, I haven't had any problems like this on my phone, I use it fairly often and hold it using said "death grip" I don't get a drop, but it's as you said, it depends on if you have strong reception or mixed reception.
Anything to make it happen but just like with the iPhone if ur signal is strong u won't see any bar drops , it will simply happen in areas where you have mixed reception . Being that I have access to these phones I've tried it on different captivates and have had the same results .
Odd, I can't recreate this either. ...oh wait, I had to actually give my phone the a literal "grip of death" as in squeeze it in a manor that I would never do in actual use.
@BreeanneCR ha yeah i know i do it all the time i also have alchemy that is a good one. and another good thing is you can get all kinds of ringtones for free :D!
i guess this is the prob with using the same tech without proper testing, i'm sure samsung engineers are now like wtf!!!!! how did we miss that !!! (steve jobs lauging at em now) But in all honesty this antenna prob is soo unique it really could have been easily overlooked by samsung quality control engineers.Everyone was laughing at jobs and the iphone but now it is very embarrasing for samsung to have this same prob, nobody is laughing at their camp that is for sure.
Like tarunrad said, it's all about dropped calls. Apple says that the iPhone 4 drops more calls than the 3GS. On every phone, bars disappearing doesn't mean you will lose a call. When I bought this phone, I was a little worried because I saw the bars go down to zero bars a bunch of times, but I have never dropped a call or had people I called say that it was a bad connection. Overall I love this phone!
@psanlv2004 this is the same experience ive had witht he iphone 4 and the captivate. ive never had a dropped call with either phone. Granted I dont talk much to begin with but so far so good.
@Priscilla060 Even dumb phones have this issue. I had it on my samsung sync in 2007. as a matter of fact it came with a sticker showing you where NOT to hold that phone but it never got blown out of proportion.
have you dropped calls as a result? the thing is many phones have this problem but it's just easier to do on the iPhone 4 because Apple decided to give you that X-marks the spot to touch. Either way How are you liking the captivate so far ?
@tarunrad i love this phone . Between the Iphone 4 they both have advantages and disadvantages.
The captivates screen is amazing but theres discoloration when viewing from an angle. it can play any video format so importing avi's or xvid works fine. Flash support on Android 2.1 is also great for certain video sites.
Battery life however is HORRIBLE.
The one thing I can complain about the iphone is what has plagued it forever and that is lack of open source
@estaticxalde don't be too worried about batterylife,
here's the thing this phone uses a G9 battery which takes about 6-9 cycles to fully discharge , I recommend you charge this phone fully and then let it discharge to zero without plugging it in and you'll see a huge improvement.
In fact wirefly recently did a comparison with the iPhone 4 and the galaxy s came out on top for batterylife. this phone actually has beastly batterylife for a smartphone
@estaticxalde bro ur on crack the battery life on mine is GREAT!!! and im not one of those people who dont use my phone. i heavly use it. i charge it up at night then wake up in the morning and throught the whole day i use it playing games, calling, texting, and listening to music. and at the end of the day around 5 i have 15% left or more. no thats a good battery u must have a defective one

I think you're phone is defective. I've gripped mine every way under the sun and the signal strength stays the same.

Do a real test by making a call to see if call quality decreases or calls are dropped.
