  • Hey, nice job on the videos. I'm finding them extremely helpful. Quick question: How do you feel about internal miking on toms? I want to try it live. So far, I've got a Behringer XENYX X2442 mixer with a dbx 266 compressor. Any thoughts?

  • @raulxaguilar

Glad you're finding them helpful - to be honest, I have no clue about internal micing. I feel like you'd have a hard time getting the sound you want because of all the airflow going on inside the drum, though.

  • Your videos are EXTREMELY helpful. I have one question.. I'm on a pretty tight budget (high school -__-). I'm definitely getting the CAD mics that you have, I just need to know what mixer/audio interface to get. I don't even know what the difference between the two are! I need something to plug my mics into that I can use for home recording, and for live situations. Can you recommend something not too expensive that I can use?

  • can u hear the track while recording

  • Can I get the same, compressed sound If I use usb audio interface and 4 chan mixer? Or does the sound get easily blurred if I use mixer? Or am i able to route the mixer channels to separate auxes in my DAW ( Logic in this case)? If i use mixer, am I only able to adjust the global eq etc..?

  • Do you have 6 chinas?

  • can u send me a link where u got ur firepod?

  • @colingtr1

I got them used from someone - I'm not sure they're selling this exact model any more, but there are new ones like "FP10" and "FireStudio" that *I think* have the same capabilities.

  • @SnareSpectre I just got a mixer and im still new at recording, but i'm still confused, on mixers you can connect an adio interface but whats the difference than just connecting the mixer straight to my computer through USB?

  • I record to a dedicated recorder. If I only have 8 track recording capability do you see any issue mixing all the toms to a single channel? I guess what I'm asking is do you use all the same post processing (gates, compression, eq, etc) on all your toms or does this differ from tom to tom?

  • Hey man, I'm looking in to getting some recording equipment, and I was wondering, do you think the TASCAM US-1800 USB 2.0 Audio/Midi Interface is a good audio interface to infest in? I noticed it's nearly the same as your firepods.

  • @lpjdrummer12295

I honestly couldn't tell you since I only have experience with these, but as long as it can record 8 SIMULTANEOUS inputs (and that's the key....since it's USB 2.0 it sounds like it will only do 2), then I'd say go for it.

  • @SnareSpectre Awesome thanks a lot, I also noticed it comes with Cubase LE5. So I think this one is for me.

  • @lpjdrummer12295 definitely a good investment! I use the Tascam US-1641 (older version of the 1800) to record drums, so the 1800 should be a piece of cake =)

  • @Cadmiumboy one more question, I haven't bought anything yet, I'm still looking at stuff, would you say that a USB mixer would be a good investment either? I found one with 8 inputs and it's a bit cheaper than the interface, I'm trying to decide between the two.

  • @lpjdrummer12295 what type of mixer is it?

  • @Cadmiumboy I honestly don't remember. But it's controlled through USB, and has 8 XLR inputs. The only reason I'd consider that instead was for live settings, but I'd rather have a good interface. The mixer would just be icing on the cake.

  • @lpjdrummer12295 well I probably wouldn't recommend using a mixer even for that; it would color your signal, and not in a good way. your best option would be running tube preamps into your interface, or just plugging straight into the interface itself like I do

  • @Cadmiumboy Ok sounds good, the interface seems to be the winner since it comes with the software as well.

  • What music is that in the background? I like it!

  • @progdog73

    Description. :)

  • I wish i had come across this video earlier because i would use these mics instead of the nady mics I just bought

  • do youo use pc pr mac??? and how did you install the firewire into your computer, with a chipset???

  • @MalcolmDrummer

I use a PC - I bought the firewire card and just installed it into a PCI slot since the computer didn't have one before.

  • @SnareSpectre Thank you, this actually helped alot. (:

  • You the man! All of your guides have helped me so much! Everything makes so much sense when you explained the topics. VERY grateful!

  • @Biggestmutemathfan

That's great to hear! Comments like yours let me know that all the hard work I put into making these videos has served its purpose and was well worth it!

  • I love your drum setup man! :D

  • is this only for recording or do u need all of this if u are playing live?

  • @MJFAN2220 I have a pa with a seperate mixer for my drums and another for the rest of the band and all you really need is a mixer or two a pa and your drum mics get some experience trying out your effects and eq and you are good to go

  • Dude, first off great videos! helped me understand so much! now i am in the market for gear, so what xlr cables do you recommend? ... where can i get your computor program?..... what would be the difference between a mixer and your firepod?.... and lastly for now, you should consider doing a micing and set up tutorial for live shows.

  • Can a firepod connect to Cubase LE 4 through firewire??

  • @ikedrummer

    Yes.

  • Loving the background music! One of their best songs

  • @docawsome530

I can't get enough of that song - I listen to it several times through any time I drive somewhere for more than an hour and a half!

  • lol O ring:D

  • what if i want to do a live show.

i know i will need mics and cables, but what else

  • @DjABBlends for live shows you need a mixer(s) depending on how many drums you use. But in most cases, if you have a show dedicated soley to your band and the place is big enough that your drums need mics, the venue will probably supply them for you.

  • how much does it normally cost alltogether?

  • how do i get firepod?

  • 1: EQUIPMENT!

2: you need more cymbals ;D

  • Damn that China got hurt :P

  • I don't have correct drum mics, I only have a few regular mics. Do you think that it'll be able to sound good with only four mics? If so, where should I position them?

  • what program du u use to edit your video's?

  • so you attached the two interfaces? can i do that with any interface?

  • @akadylan

It all depends on the interface - the Firepods can hook up to each other (it's called "daisy-chaining"), but I just ran them both into the computer separately. For other interfaces it all depends on what they're capable of; I'm sure different brands have different levels of compatibility.

  • Can you tell me all the equipment you use to get the sound from the microphones to your computer. Do the drum mics pack come with the wires? Cause I am planning on getting those this Christmas.

  • hi, i had just bought the cad mic set shown in your video and i want to get a cheap beringer mixer but since there are 7 mics and only 4 mic imputs, any suggestions?

  • I was loving the computer until you said vista...

  • Ah, you're one of THOSE people :) I have run 32-bit Vista now for about 3 years and haven't had a bit of trouble at all with it, with the exception of vanilla Quake 4 getting low FPS...but that was fixed with a patch.

Runs like a dream for me!

  • whats the band playing in background?

  • Circus Maximus - one of the best progressive metal bands I've heard!

  • @SnareSpectre thanks man!

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • firepods are £300 is there anyway u can do that cheper just like mics straight to pc?

    please reply

    thanks

  • Not that I know of - I'm sure there is cheaper equipment that does the same thing as a Firepod, but the cheaper option would probably be just to do a mixer.

  • how do you connect 2 of them together?

  • 2 of what?

  • @cannon13200 the 2 firepodds sorry

  • No problem - the Firepods can be "daisy-chained" together and act as one unit (as if it was one Firepod with 16 XLR inputs), and you can do that with up to 3 Firepods, or they can just be plugged into two firewire ports separately, which is how I have them connected.

  • EXCELENT ! !
