Omg! I just read that someone stole your keyboard from your locker with all your files! Who would do that? What a's! Well, I'm grateful you recorded all your awesome, really great music before that happened! Cool that you use software now, and your Axiom 61 for MIDI; I just miss seeing you doing all that lightning-fast fingerwork on your keyboard! You take any bad situation, Tesla, and turn it around to a "positive" experience; GREAT JOB! this is really fantastic music you make - thank you
@mattiamusic7 I actually don't have this keyboard anymore. Somebody stole it from my locker with all of the files. That's Ok though. We replaced the Motif 6 with the MO 6. Currently the MO 6 is not in my possession because I have the Axiom 61 for MIDI and I don't really use hardware anymore. My cousin and I (basically) use software now. I would still suggest to continue using your keyboard because its more efficient, just not as powerful as software. I'll try letting you know the voices. Thanks
We played every part, but not as you think. Each part was recorded as a track in "pattern mode". Once we had all the parts, we recorded it live in "pattern mode". This is really complicated because once the song is created it is nearly impossible to record it exactly the same again. It takes a while to get used to. As you can hear though, the processor can't handle all that "punch" or data at once. We now have the Mo6 and working with software. Pretty soon we'll have some more tracks posted.
Hello msmotif6 here.. How do you chainparts together. I was inspired to try looping so I did two parts and tried to chain it to make a full song. Can u tell me that process pls? I normally only do real time recdg.
Click on "Pattern". Then "Mixing". On your green screen you should see "vol/pan" , "voice", etc. Click "Voice" or "F2". I'm looking at the MO6 right now, but it is I think similar. Track "1" should be automatically selected. So should, "A". This will allow you to create a track on channel "1". Next click "Category Search". The two top rows are your instruments. Click on one and use your arrows or "Wheel" to select them. As you scroll on each of them you can play them. I'm out of room.
Once you have selected one. Click "Rec" . Look at you green screen. You will see Type, Loop, Quantize, etc. Type should be on "replace" for now. Loop should be "on" and Quantize I think for you can be 160. Quantize helps align the notes for you. Your tempo is 120 by default. You can turn it up or down. For now, stay at 120. Your measures are 4 by default. Now, Click the "stop" button. You see another screen. This is screen is really helpful. Running out again.
You see your pattern 1 is highlighted. You can record up to 16 channels. You can transpose here. Turn up your tempo. And increase and decrease your measures. Stay on 4. Click on "Rec" again. To record hit the "play" button. It starts to click, Start recording after your eighth click. or 2nd measure in 4/4 time. You have 4 measures of recording time here. Once you are done it is done. Move on to your next track. Same thing. Hit pattern, NOW " click on the number "2" for your second track.
Click "mixing", Voice should already be selected here for you. You only need to do it once. Then "category search" . Select your instrument. Hit "rec" If its ready for you then record. Once you have two tracks recorded hit stop to stop everything. Click on "pattern". Here you see 16 channels again. Only track one and two are recorded on. Hit "Play' and turn on and off track 1 and 2 at any given time. Record more tracks and you can turn more on and off and any given time. Hope this helps.
You run it through your PC and record with a software program like "Cool Edit Pro". Highlight what you recorded and save it as a .wav file or .mp3. Hope that helps.
I remember when you first made this song. Awsome song with a lot of surprises along the way. Very original and up-beat. Loved this song and always will.
oooh Tesla! I wasn't expecting the song to 'turn' the way it did; it started so relaxing and then changed unexpectantly to a different rythmic alteration. Really, it was a nice surprise in the beat/bass addition and the climactic drum solo in the mid song. Then you went back to relaxing movement at the end. It kept me listening, just to hear all then changes in beat.
Yes, cool music! I have the Motif 6 as well and it's interesting to hear music made by other people with it. I'm trying to think more about editing sounds nowadays, like changing "elements" around and so forth.
Hello Again DT100, Yes I've been recording independently since 1984 (I was about 14 then). With my then Yamaha MT100 4 track (tape based studio). It had some hiss but I was doing great stuff with it. Until 1996, when I got into Digital with the VS-880. My musical style is wide open. I compose everything Heavy Metal Rock, 70's 80's Pop Rock, R&B, Hip hop, Jazz Techno/Trance, Gospel, Classical and very little Country. I'm 39 now but I had to grow into each style. Keep it up, learn everything...
Sounds good dude. I have the Yamaha Motif 6 also. I bought it new in 2001. I also have the MO 6 and the Motif rack XS. Along with the Kawai K3, Ensoniq EPS Classic and Yamaha SY 55. Different thing work for different people. Soft synths are cool but for me hardware is working great. I recored on 2 different Roland hardware units. The VS-880 (I bought new in 1996) and the VS-1824cd (I bought new in 2003). With both mastering down to different Alesis MasterLinks. DT100 Keep up the good work....
I can't believe you have so many synthesizers. Have you recorded any of your music? What style of music do you write? I will tell you the truth, the reason I used these keyboards were to push all that they have and the only way to do that was with techno/trance music. I'm pushing what the processor can handle. The processors are to slow for what I am doing. I get lag time on both the MO6 and Motif6. I am working with software now only to reduce that. You're Awesome for having all those!!
Thanks!! Needs more work. I have better. My files and programs are not on my computer right now. I had to start over and stuff. Computer took a crash. Set me way back. I am working with Ableton 7.0.2, so for now I will practice some software synth. Thought I might share. Wish me luck!!

How much of it did you play into it? Or did you looping or original sets off of the performance mode?
Sounds excellent, great job. Give the Motif some credit as a great modern keyboard.
I love mine- and use it quite a bit in my studio.
