I'm 62 yrs. old, retired, and started playing with some of my "toys" again. The videos are of my 1976 BMW R90/6 in Havana Gold with optional "S" Cockpit Fairing with Clock/Voltmeter I ordered and bought in July '76. It came with the Optional 5.8 gal. tank, but I bought the 6.3 gal. "S" tank and "S" seat & Cowling late that same year and color matched them to the "S" fairing in Havana Gold/Gold Fogging. I installed the 2 into 1 headder 2 years ago-after having it for 30+ years! I still love this
What kind of exhaust pipes are those? It looks really great with those grip end mirrors and the sound is amazing, I have the same 1976 machine but in brown/red scheme, looks more racing in black. Pretty nice, thanks for posting.
Great looking bike! I have a 75 R90/6 and would love to get the same handlebars and grip end mirrors. Where did you get the mirrors? Are the handlebars the "S" handlebars?

@holbroom1 The handlebars are just the stock short ones -- easy to find. I got the bar-end mirrors somewhere in L.A., but I can't remember the name of the place. If you look around, you can find lots of nice ones . . .
There are probably better "beginner bikes", but sure, why not? Keep in mind that these older bikes need more attention and maintenance than a modern machine -- but that's one of the good things about having one . . .
I bought it with 116,000 so I am not so sure of its history. Got a new clutch 2 years ago and new rings recently. Was told I have about 3 more years on the pistons themselves. Not sure what the tranny had done if anything. Seems to still be fine.
I'm 58 yrs old. Been into and wrenched thru Nortons and the whole Brit. thing. Done the Japanese stuff too. Looking back, I'd recommend a BMW/6 to anyone looking for solid engineering and ease of owner maintenance. Ain't going into detail, but you can ride 50,000 miles, replace rings, do a valve job and ride another 50,000. I no longer need the latest greatest. /6 is all it takes.
I got on hit on the freeway with mine, the car hit the rightside head,. There was no damage to speak of (I wanted it noted that I didn't go down), but I did put straight pipes on my Boxer so I can be heard. BMW's are notoriously quiet
I stopped traffic on both sides of one of the busiest freeways in the country, and still managed to keep the Boxer on two wheels, who's the stud here? Yeah.
I live in Italy and you live in Ohio . . . (My brother lives in Columbus). If you're interested, you can send me a message and I can give you any info. that might help you find one, etc.
That's the original /6 seat. The dual discs are also stock -- BMW started putting dual discs on the R90/6 at the very end of its production run (at least in Europe). You should find a replacement for your old beemer . . .
Yes, you're right about the pistons. They're not excessively heavy -- the center of gravity is low and they handle beautifully. This series (/6) was the first with a 5 speed gearbox.

I have a 75 R90/6, they are very solid machines. 134,000 miles and will easily do another 100,000.

What kind of major work have you done so far? Pistons, heads, etc.?
Mine has about 75,000 miles now and it's solid as a rock.

Should not have the kick-start for that year unless it was an option, or added later.

Yes, they're great machines. I've been working on it a lot this week -- normal springtime brush-up, and it's ready for the road . . . Can't wait!

so the pistons go out and in at the same time, basically neutralizing any vibration, right??? also, are these bikes heavy? easy to handle? 5-speed?
