1) Why don't they force logging company to plant trees?

2)Take the money from military budgets if you don't have enough. The US defense budget is 600 billion per year! Another serious side effect of deforestation is the release of dangerous and potentially lethal virus and bacteria that were quite happy living in forests but are now spreading and 'species jumping' due to forests being levelled. It happened with Ebola in Africa and we don't have immunity to that particular nasty. Virologists reckon on many more undiscovered virus and bacteria that could be released by deforestation that would make Ebola look like a common cold in comparison.

Planting is not a conclusive, not even sustainable solution. It can only be a small deed after the cutting has stopped. Its not realistic to "plant as there's no tomorrow". We need to enact economic alternatives to cutting, and that is only possible by socialist politics. And we need UN police in the Amazon funded by all nations.

It's also true that many of the '' newer '' virus come from the tattered skirts of the rainforests and jungles, where left alone, they have been circulating for a very long time, Bolivian Hemmoraghic Fever, Marburg, Ebola, and others. Excellent content, Rich' and very true. My uncle Tony has been involved in the Woodland Trust many years, in an effort to preserve natural British woodland[ as small thing I know] but spoke of the deforestation in the world long ago. He encourages people to plant new trees and does so each year. Every person must do something, however small and insignificant it seems.
