The clown in the top hat, Robert Gorodetsky, is the author of this sketch. He invented it in January 1981, while listening the song for the first time, and brought to their theater. Slava Polunin included it in his Snowshow by Gorodetsky's permission.

It is not true that an italian cannot understand anything.

there are some parts that are confused (and they are not saying anything) but some parts are very clearly spoken in Italian (even though with russian accent)!

so i guess they imitated the song from a recording but they imitated so well that for quite some time they are actually speaking Italian :)

You're right!

They imitate the sound of the italian singers between WW1 & WW2 (20's-40's), but many parts are very clear to understand, especially if you know the original text of the lyrics.
