I've recently heard some bootlegs of Stratovarius current tour in expectance of their gig here in Milan (Italy) next January. I've noticed that Timo struggles in hitting high notes but until 2003 he was surely to be regarded among the best and the most beautiful voices of power metal...
Thank you... Jowox is a great collector of really good singers... I don't consider Timo Tolkki as a singer, I'd rather say that he's a lunatic person... :-) Great guitar player!!!
Yeah, it's just something I read in the vocal range discussion video. I don't know if they were discussing Tolkki as a singer, or if they were clarifying that the low notes on Stratovarius's albums were done by him, rather than Kotipelto.
Hehe I"ve started to hear Power Metal some months ago^^before that time I listened to classic Rock like Deep Purple etc. Thats why I never heard of him^^
It's always better starting from the classics such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and so on... They're all bands that have made the history of rock music...
First of all I would like to thank you for what you've written above. It's very kind of you. Thank you very much!...
Sounds kinda weird you've never heard of Timo Kotipelto... If you're fond of metal music, you should know him. He is the singer of the Finnish Power Metal band Stratovarius...
Many people have recently asked me to make videos of several vocalists and I think I will collect some stuff regarding Tony Harnell as well.
Great! His voice is really awesome... So clear and melodic... Finland can count on several great voices such as Timo Kotipelto, Tarja Turunen, Tony Kakko,... Congratulations all Finns out there!!!
What about Elements Pt. I and Elements Pt. II? Even if they're not generally considered among the best Stratovarius albums, it's remarkable to state that Timo hits very high notes...
and I just discovered it! Btw, are you sure all the clips in the "more" section are included? some clips must´ve been very short...
learning to fly has a very high sung melody. the F#5 in Forever free is also very good. timo is not famous for singing in a very chesty manner but it fits the music and he has a clean and light tone.
Yes, Timo Kotipelto is surely one of the best metal singers. Wonderful voice! The real voice of Stratovarius (one of my favourite bands).
I heard that the remaining members of Stratovarius took on a new guitarist and they are gonna do other albums together. At least that's what's written on their official website.
Let's wait and see... I look forward to listening to the new fellow and to what they're able to do without Timo Tolkki's inspiration.
I heard also that Timo Tolkki announced he will record a last Stratovarius album in 2009. The line up should be composed by founding member of the band drummer Tuomo Lassila and former keyboard player Antti Ikonen while the Vocals and guitars will be done by Timo Tolkki. Now, his adventure in Stratovarius is over and I do hope he will stay in Revolution Renaissance while the other guys of Stratovarius go on making the music we like...
Yes KeiAohi, you're right! Timo is one of my favourite singers and one of the most beautiful voices of Metal. Regarding the Scorpions cover "Blackout" I must admit that his voice suits to the song (I have got the whole Stratovarius discography as well as Kotipelto's one...
he makes it with no dificult
is it easy? hahahaha

Hey, I like the video! I decided to make a 'vocal range' video for Kotipelto 'cause I see people asking for one. I also have a Tony Kakko one :D.
Difficult to find low notes for this guy :P.

In Finnish "Revontulet" literally means "Fox' Fires" i.e. Aurora Borealis... Isn't it? I've studied a little Finnish for a while...
winterbringer 2 years ago
;) You're right. It means aurora boreal...
revontulet412 2 years ago
Great... Thank you... It means that I I learnt something during my staying In Helsinki 2 years ago... :-)
winterbringer 2 years ago
@winterbringer
Revontulet actually means northern lights, you know, the phenomena on the extremely cold winter skies.
But 'fox' fires' is the correct word-to-word translation.
Dammit Timo got some pipes! Wish I could make that kinda noises some day ;D

Actually it does not matter how high or how low could you sing, it is more important how do you use all your vocal resources...
TheAsthin 2 years ago 5
Yes, I see what you mean and it's important pointing out that to be a great singer goes beyond the simple fact of how high/low he sings...
winterbringer 2 years ago
G#2 is his lowest I guess...
TheAsthin 2 years ago
So if his highest is B♭5, what's his lowest?
Tarantinomaniac 2 years ago
I don't really know... I usually devote myself only to the high and to the highest ones... :-)... Sorry...
winterbringer 2 years ago
Yeah, I noticed that all your videos were only high notes. No worries, though, great work nonetheless.
I read something about an E2 in Jowox's vocal range discussion video, but I also heard that it might be Timo Tolkki instead.

I think I included all the clips, you're right many clips are very short but maybe I'd better explain what follows:
/ means that there's a progression of notes taking part in a melody.
- means that there's a change of clip.

Timo is a very good singer. I think it's a bad idea that Stratovarius is doing one last album and it's without Tokki. That's a stupid idea.

wytrzeszcz 3 years ago
Hi! I'm gonna upload some new videos in just few days when I have some more time off.
Regarding "Gb5" (G flat, 5 octave) or "Fb5" (F flat, 5 octave = E), they stand for the note Timo hits in the international note transcription.
winterbringer 3 years ago
