  • Now ya talking!

    NICE spool up !

  • yes, but ball bearings dont wear as much from start-stop cycles right?

  • i love soung of those nice jet engines :-) it makes me happy ^^

  • What is the load carrying capacity and life of such bearings? Is the coating capable of start-stop sliding friction for a long time?

  • I noticed that during the startup there were some indications of metal-fragments (sparks) in the flash of flame that exited the tailpipe. Where did these come from?

  • Awesome. The only problem is when this wonderful technology will became available to the public.

They have been around for years now ... same website, same videos, obscene prices, hello when are you guys deciding to let us use the %#$^&*& thing it's just little more than tin foil folded a certain way. The planet could use a little less oil on it's system NOW!

  • I´d like to see a complete shutdown.

  • Unfortunately development cost with Miti is very expensive and they quote "best efforts" only. They need to get real about the cost of the bearings, it ain't rocket science as they say

  • Can you film the complet start up?

    I love this sound

    Thanks

  • Hrmm, im sure my corolla would be loads faster if i had a few of those bad boys on it

  • very cool. Foil bearings are the way to go with any very high speed turbine.

  • Is there any information on the general construction of the engine. What is the compressor design (radial, axial)? Any website that talks about the project in general, looks like pretty cool stuff.

  • nevermind I found it

  • what was the fuel. the bearings are Korlon? what is that

  • From what I can gather Korolon is a coating which is used to reduce friction and wear between the bearing surface and the shaft. I looked into these bearings for an oil free turbo I was designing but sadly was told by my supervisor that they were too expensive - shame, because the alternative we came up with was false economy really. I will be watching developments with interest though!

  • Jet A fuel was used. Jet A with a little oil added lubricated the forward ball bearing. A compliant foil air bearing made of high temperature nickel based super alloy coated with Korolon supported the engine's hot section. Korolon protects the bearing surface during start up and shut down when the shaft contacts the bearing. At operating speeds the shaft glides on a film of air. Bearing cost is coming down and will be competitive with current bearings when purchased in large quantities.
