He was my grandfather and I saw him play around the world. One of the most humble, yet talented people I have ever known. I know he has passed, but I still love to watch him on the internet. He got a standing ovation in Vienna on his birthday when he was probably 91 years old and he was still touring. He had more passion than many others I know. I wish people had known him like I had.
@Msandor100 Thanks you for this very sincere & touching words! Mr. Sandors Bartok & Prokofiev are probably the best ever. I discovered this great pianist thanks to the well known dvd "The Art of Piano Playing". Humbleness & passion: that combination is really the key to humanity for me. Thanks again!
I studied with him and used to drive him to his concerts in Sicily. Indeed, one of the last great pianists of the golden era. Very big sound. His book on "Piano Playing" has wonderful information.
He was one of the great pianists, but he never had the fame he deserves due to many different reasons.
he loved to do many things and he never dedicated completely to play piano as other "Normal" famous pianists. According to some people who know him , he was also a kind of lazy man to practice enough. :-)
91 wtf

He was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th Centuary. A noble and generous man. A true artist.
