Im deffinently considering this 4th wave, because this is exactly the way ska needs to go now. Punk rose up when everything was cookie cutter. Ska went with it, since skinheads and rude boys where always against being looked down upon for being different. Now, they arent. They won, so why not relax with this kind of music again?
@DoityDeagle I always found Streetlight Manifesto to be the way I would envision 4th wave ska. Not ska punk, not two tone, not trad, but a combination of so many musical genres. They redefine the sound expected from ska with their insane depth and creativity behind their music. But alas I wouldn't mind this being the next step either. Though The Damned, Dumb, and Delirious seems to be ska/punk again.
@antiflag1 I agree about Streetlight Manifesto being fourth wave, but I also heard them being described as more of a "hardcore jazz" band and I think that description is also sort of apt. I think ska could branch off in two different ways and it would be awesome, though.
RBF is boring and unoriginal i mean there awesome and all but there sound bores me over time BigD is just...WOW there sound is just so soothing and chill it cheers me up every time i hear it. I Love their new amazing sound! :)
One of the best Big D songs ever. I like the old stuff like can't be caught but I respect that Big D is doing stuff no other ska band is doing, this is pretty chill and creative music
While we're Laying after a perfect day As we fade away What a world we've made I told her 'Relax, There's no need to be shy Go ahead and laugh too loud My friends think you're divine Feel safe and alive Come look at the sky Tonight you look so nice' Tonight we'll be..
keep an open mind, coffeebandits... it is different, but honestly, sticking with the same sound gets tiring. i, personally, really dig it... and doped up dollies and chin up boy sound really good as well. looking forward to hearing the rest of the album, and im sure im going to be able to sit down and enjoy it. it may not be the same old ska/punk big d, but wake up: there's a lot more to music than punk folks.

this and Chin Up Boy, are the only songs I can tolerate listening to on the CD. Actually is ska and sounds like Big D... Usually I support a new change of sound, but imo they just can't exactly pull off the weird new soul/funk/hopscotchy/rap/pop sound they are trying to go for.
i never heard drexel ill check them out but yeah the whole fluent in stroll cd isnt that gret but i do like some of the songs like i saw them live yesterday and today and they were real good but yeah its nothin compared to strictly rude or how it goes

@antiflag1 Tomas Kalnoky, the lead singer/guitar player in Streetlight, describes Streetlight Manifesto as a "Thrash Ska" band. Which fits perfectly.

I think that sound is called the "skank", someone correct me if I'm wrong.
sirmarksalot 2 years ago
@sirmarksalot The sound/music is called ska. You skank to ska music, which is a dance. Skanking is incredibly fun if you have never done it.

just bought the cd,
two kids excited when they hit the pavement
you know the sight of us, the two most complacent
Oh my God is this the world? How will we keep
ourselves young? How will we keep our souls pure?
We'll have to step back, be steady, And check out
the new scenery, Deduct what we are seeing
And trust each other's opinion
trixr4mee 2 years ago 8
Gotta push back the people, Who try and sour reality
There's so many bitter, We'll have to be believers
Stand tall
We both look them in the eye
We're trying not to laugh just yet
I think we'll both do fine
Now we're laying after a perfect day
As we fade away
What a world we'll make
trixr4mee 2 years ago 8
Well I'm forever your fighting partner, Yeah I can
hold you above them for days, You see, my arms are
strong and I'm focused, We're in store for better
days, Oh no I don't need to see, Just tell me what it
looks like above the clouds
Describe the sky to me, just
Describe the sky to me
