If you think about it, Jay's monologue is about 10 minutes, so every week he would be writing 50 minutes of jokes. That's probably not easy for comedians. Don't forgot, stand up comedians usually do the same jokes on a tour because they have a different audience every night.

First thing, Jay wasn't dumped, they upgraded him to an earlier time slot 10pm instead of 11:30pm. which i not common practice. Jay wanted to retire , and made it clear years ago, but seems NBC did not want to lose their late night King, ( yes he pulls more than David Letterman ), so my guess is that NBC made him this offer for a juicier time slot.

Jay is on at 10 PM now (EST) the show is a bit different, no desk, so he can sit closer to guests and some of the skits are reversed, for example "headlines" is at the end of the show instead of at the beginning. other than those little things its about the same. 10pm is a prime time slot, I even heard letterman make a joking comment ( hinting to network ) about wanting that time slot. Im a night owl, so now I actually watch Leno less in that time slot, now I watch Conan then Graig on Late late

He could have prevented all of this, but he let it all happen. He knew where it was going, it was obvious to everyone, but Jay wanted the show back so he sat back and did nothing knowing that a good man and all his staff would be let go after moving their lives across the country.

That's what I was talking about. He didn't start it, well, technically he did with his awful ratings which led to affiliate complaints, but he did nothing to stop the outcome when he easily could have.
