The original Breath of Fire is a great SNES JRPG, right up there with the classics. I'd even take it over Final Fantasy (probably because I played it more as a kid.) Good to hear you were talking yourself into playing it even three years ago. Any chance of an LP on that someday?

You can steal a circlet from them, which raises magic and spirit (magic defense) by 30 each, similar to the champion belt, but for magical attacks. It's less useful than the championship belt, but I still liked grabbing a couple.

Oh, and that Elixir is an infinite elixir! Pick it up, the text box appears saying that you've got it, and while the box is still up, leave the cave and come back. You can pick it up again and again this way, as long as you never press OK the second time to close that text box.

It takes the equivalent of 544 steps to pass out in the Great Glacier, so fast-forwarding could not help you, unless you're also moving.

One might consider running around in that Cave where you met the Snow - I believe that's one of the scattered places in the Glacier where you can meet Snow as a random encounter. You can steal the Circlet from her, which increases magic and spirit by 30 points apiece!

It's also possible to pass out in a cave. It happened to me while grinding for encounters.

Yes. It is quite useful there, especially since Toad and Mini slots give you a ton of Battle Points.

In Breath of Fire 1, after reaching the top of the Spring Tower, Mote would send you into a Dream World. After clearing the Cave area in Mote's Dream World, you would encounter some sort of astral plain (or perhaps an outer space) area where you walk across some sort of magical walkway. At certain points, there would be switches/platforms you're forced to walk on that causes the room to spin for a few seconds.

I gotta be honest Gaia's Cliff is my least favorite area of the game. It's really big with some pretty high encounter rate, and the monsters are fairly tough (if you're not optimized like Mr. Bailly that is). Coincidentally, the Ice Cliffs in Final Fantasy IX are also an annoying area for me.
