I had one of these, and loved it. Then the batteries started going dead, and the way he started to sound scared me. I never used it again, even when my dad changed the batteries.

I remember trying one of these back in 96 at walmart not knowing how they would be such a hot item later on. I remember that walmart would have a raffle whenever they got stock cause it kept selling out so quicly.

Yea tickle me Elmo was probably the first toy to start the "it" holiday item craze. You should also review furby and the tamagotchis!

When I lived in San Jose, Ca I remeber seeing these in the classified ads. Most sellers were selling tickle me elmo in the $400-$600 range. However, I did see a few of these guys that were being sold for over $1000. And you are right people were buying at these insane prices. Thanks John, for the trip down memory lane. It seems like yesterday when this took place.

My dog was in heat once and got a hold of tickle me elmo XD I'm not kidding!

And I remember when I was little when I turned on the lights It would trigger big bird for some reason and he'd say " Patty Cake Patty Cake Baker's Man...." and I ran away all scared.

I'm proud to have one of these. I worked at Sears Catalog the year this came out. Man, a lot of people called in for these, and it was sold out the entire time.

I used to have all the other 3 of them. But I gave Cookie Monster to my niece, which rocked.. Ernie was awesome. Big Bird is just plain disturbing. Always found Big Bird creepy...

My niece who is almost two years old loves Elmo.

I'm honestly shocked you didn't mention the riots that happened when this came out. Of course, I don't remember them seeing as I was only a year old at the time of it's release but I remember my family talking about the riots that took place (in inner city Philadelphia, no less) a few years back.
