  • That video is priceless, but pleeease get rid of that thing on the screen.

  • how rare it is to get this kind of insight into a work in progress from an artist who clearly has viewed her talent and life as a work in progress and never stopped working at it. What an incredible talent and what a blessing to be a contemporary age-wise and watch her evolve. Pure joy.

  • Lyrics definitely improved, but this is something to see.

  • Wow.

  • HOW SWEET IS THIS?!?! SUCH A FEELING OF BEING IN HER SOUL AS SHE IS CREATING...HEART TOUCHING

  • My god, has there been anything like her ever since? such a pure and beautiful soul..

  • She's an angel

  • @soyunsauce This is one of the most beautiful and honest performances I've ever seen...definately one of my favourite songs...even though she does look a little like CARRIE in those days. She is simply the definition of beautiful for sure.

  • Gosh how many instruments does this women play, she is totally amazing.

  • I guess Graham Nash gets an assist on this one, because the final version is just so perfect.

  • I just loves it when she says "dynamite girl"

  • i wish she would knit me a sweater and write me a love letter.

  • @evilthesaurus You and me both....You and me both.

  • @CaptainKubla

    yep. :)

  • This was an incredible experience -- to hear the song in its early stages. Very, very nice, Joni.

  • Wow.

It took me until 2011 to learn there was another version of this song.

I wonder how many other versions of her songs exist?

If she's anything like Springsteen ..... a lot.

  • Wow

    Thanks so much for this.

The purity and truth in these lyrics, although a younger version, almost transcend those of the album version. I wonder what made her change them?

  • Superb Share... Blue for me remains one of the finest 5 albums of all time, regardless of Genre... pure artistry and inspiration. Lovely to hear this Jewel in one of the stages of its evolution... a flower in the growing!

  • Stunning! Joni the talent and goddess.

  • Blew me away, it did. It is so different from the album version, and so raw and vulnernable. Which lover was she singing to this time? I think a lot of her fragility at the time she was making "Blue" had somehting to do with her daughter - to me, "Little Green" is about as poignant a song as you can get. But then, I didn't even know about that child until I read "Girls Like Us".

  • @westernjen

Most likely Graham Nash, considering the timing.

  • Wow, she really worked this one over before the album version!

  • Rythm Voice and feelingis wrong. This isnot Joni Mitchell this un earth-

    remember MATRIX.I`ll warnyou in front!!

  • There was no sweden or Germany, this is the Invasion of Et`s..

    Guess One love

  • increible. Joni fue mi primer amor musical. y este video es una joya. gracias por subirlo.

  • ...looking forward to enjoying .... traveling ... in wrecked jukebox stocking.... peace.....

  • ....in life and love... Joni speaks.... thank you for posting.

  • lovely

  • What a treat. Thanks.

  • Voice of an Angel, no two ways about it. Never heard this (obviously seminal) version before, thank you very much for uploading........

  • So very cool!

  • This clip is very moving. I took it as introspective - saying it to herself when she said "You're not real, do you think you're fooling me? With these false pretentions of phony comraderie." - She isn't the type to attack others. She is very critical of herself and her own sincerity and authenticity. I take it as a rebuke to herself, that she saw she was acting fake, asked herself why, and discovered her greed and jealousy.

  • Today is hard to find true artists like f.e. Joni Mitchell. Beautiful.

  • ..i want to make you feel better, i want to make you feel free..

  • My favorite artist..what a blast to hear this song in such a different form from the recorded example. I have some tapes of her playing live in clubs in New York in the 60s, a lot of different stuff there too. Amazing. Thanks for posting this.

  • JONI+DULCIMER=PERFECTION

  • Here, she is like an angel who fell from the sky and began to sing in front of the crowd in that far october 9 th, 1970...

Her voice sounds perfect and pure.

Only she and her dulcimer. Nothing more. Nothing but true art...

  • Perfect, beautiful really ....This is pure talent, pure voice, pure soul. Excellent.

  • God, she is such a young girl here...

  • what a blend of all things magical is she

  • Loving the simplicity, honesty and purity. Wonderful to hear this song in its original form... Beatuiful!

  • jaw dropping. makes you want to stop listening to any other music, nothing else comes close

  • SO LOVELY!!!!

  • So beautiful! Thank you so much, I feel really lucky to have seen this!

  • wow.

  • Oh my gosh... it's like a completely different song. So amazing to hear one of Joni's most famous compositions in its early stages. You can really get a sense of what she was feeling as she wrote it, before the lyrics were really scrutinized and refined. Thank you for this!!!

  • @Can04boi That seems right to me. :) It's just so interesting because on the album it's like an ode to love, whereas here it's detailing a breakup. Just simple changes, from "All I really, really want our love to do" to "all I WANTED love to do"... small, but enough to break your heart. Joni said she felt very vulnerable when she was writing the songs for the Blue album, and you can definitely get a sense of that here.
