I love Gogol Bordello, but I agree with you that I made the song sound over-polished. And I do look like "I think I'm the best". But I'm still going to play their songs because I like their music.
can't figure out the strumming pattern here. Tabs say it's d-u-d, letting the last down ring out, but that's not what you do (and doesn't sound like what Eugene does either). Any tips greatly appreciated. I'm just starting and watching you play really helps.
Try to think of going - down,up,rest,down.. the first "down,up" is faster and fits into one beat.. Its hard to explain, but just keep listening and you will get it.
Are you doing the "rest" part by muting the chord with the left hand (i.e. reducing the force on the strings) ? Manu Chao does something like that when there's a skip in the rythm - for the life of me, I can't figure it out...
Yeah the mute is with the left hand. It is soo weird that no one can figure it out. This is about the 5th time for only this video that someone has asked about the strumming pattern. It's so simple I can't even explain it, so just like I say to everybody else, just keep listening and trying an you will laugh when you get it right and realise how easy it is.

I play it by going D-U, then muting, then D, then muting. Do this cycle twice for the Am, then once for Dm, then once for E.
