this guy is awful smug about apple. no the market does not follow apple. sorry, they didn't invent or have a part in the ddr# standards nor the 802.11x stuff. then, since the 68k nor now, when there is little difference an expensive mac or a pos dell. ok maybe firewire? but serious, who the fuck uses that anymore aside from kid touchers and people in San Francisco .
Huge mistake: "One very practical aspect of 64-bit capable machines and operating systems is the ability to run multiple OSes at the same time." Virtualization has nothing to do with 64 bits!!
This idiot doesn't know what he's talking about @ 1:00. Apple uses a very thin and backward hardware selection, renames common pc accessories, and makes people pay twice as much. The PC and mac use the same hardware. Apple simply makes people pay (much) more for it.
because when apps run, they require a set amount of space to store data temporarily. the hard can be used but it is much slower that a random access memory (ram). thats why you need ram. without it, your computer would be DOG slow. hope this helped =)
I'm using a gateway with 64 bit pushed through 16 gb + of general ram, and multi access hard drive, it allows for sd card's etc. up to 150 gb of fairly quick transfer, (per transfer slot), It still seems slow.
Hello, i'm hoping to upgrade my memory/ RAM to 4GB, and also install windows vista.
I need to run multiple software/ applications simultaneously. These include 3ds max, autocad- which are Ony windows compatible. I was hoping to run these alongside mac applications using say VM Fusion.
After an upgrade, would the computer automatically assign equal memory/ RAM usage or does activity monitor have an option/ function for manually controlling memory/ RAM usage. Thanks loads
I don't think Autocad or any other graphics intensive program is going to run good in virtualization... I suggest to use Bootcamp if you're going to use Autocad. As for assigning the memory, you have to set it up yourself, but by default it uses 512MB of RAM.
I ended up just getting the the memory from Apple. Between the cost of aftermarket DDR3 and shipping...I would have saved less than $10. Even though I drive a 4 banger...$10 doesnt fill my tank!
I tried installing Ubuntu on a Mac, and if you do it without anything special (just installing it like you would Windows) it won't work, and the bit of space you partitioned for Ubuntu will be lost unless you reinstall OS X. So unless you tweak some settings, don't do it.
Hey man I was looking at the newegg page and I noticed that some of the more expensive ram (corsair, crucial) which sold for maybe 5 or 10 dollars more than Transcend, had free shipping. I'm not sure if that applies for Hawaii, but maybe you should look at that?
Just how I like it ;). Personally I couldn't stand the Windows "Luna" interface that debuted with Windows XP in 2001, and on all my systems I always switch the theme back to Windows Classic ASAP.
Not quite sure how I would pull it off with screen capture software and in a sense it would be doing people a disservice only because you can learn *a lot* by going through the pains of fighting a raw Linux install and getting down and dirty with it (and really setting up 8.10 is now almost as painless and setting up Windows from Boot Camp). I suggest you Google "MacBook - Community Ubuntu Documentation" as that's everything you need to know to get going. Good luck and have learning!
Not quite sure because I don't have Final Cut Studio, however, no serious video editor would even think about having anything less than 2 - 4 GB of RAM installed. I believe Motion *requires* 1 GB just to get started, so with Pro Apps, the more RAM the better.
Please check the Apple website before *shouting*. Thank you, hope that helps. Peace.
hey great video, just a quick question. can you explain the swap memory? i've noticed on my aluminum macbook pro with 4gb of ram, i'm using roughly 5mb of swap memory, what does this mean?
As long as Swap Used under the System Memory tab in Activity Monitor remains at 0 Bytes then it means the computer didn't have to swap anything to disk and you have more than enough memory to keep going. 5 MB of swap memory use really is nothing to worry about. Even with my old MacBook and 2 GB of RAM, my system went out to swap once in a while (24 - 32 MB of swap), but I would have to run 8 or 9 apps simultaneously to make that happen and even then I couldn't feel any performance hit.
You are right but I just feel safer having them do it. Someone like you, will most likely feel more comfortable than I would putting the ram in yourself.
Yes, it addresses 3GB of RAM, but it will accept 4GB and enable Dual-Channel capability, which gives a lot better performance. The reason why it only addresses that is because the Intel Core 2 Duo chip that it uses has 32-bit memory addressing.
Apple does not allow you to configure it with more than 2GB of RAM at the online Apple Store because if you use 3GB you don't get the dual-channel capability and if you use 4GB, only 3GB will be addressed.
is the late 2008 macbook pro 2.4 support up to 6gb ram?

The MacBook (Late 2006) has the same motherboard as the Mac mini and the same Core 2 Duo processor and can therefore also address 3GB of RAM.

I'm gonna upgrade my Mac mini from the stock 1GB of RAM to 2.5GB RAM by putting a 2GB DIMM.
DDR2 RAM @667MHz can be found pretty cheap now.
Atheismrulez 3 years ago
Not too sure if the Mac mini can directly address a 2 GB stick. You may be safer getting two 1 GB sticks to ensure everything works properly.
dell1032 3 years ago
