This song is from the backstage musical "Chasing Rainbows". Unfortunately it is missing some technicolor scenes, including the finale of Bessie Love singing "Happy Days are here Again".
This song was part of the movie "Chasing Rainbows", one of those backstage musicals that was so popular 1929-30. Unfortunately there a several scenes in technicolor that are missing as well as 2 or 3 songs, like Happy Days are Here Again as the finale.
I cracked up when Marie coughed like that. That was too funny and her expression was hilarious. I liked Polly Moran. She was like a much wilder Bette Midler in her early talkie era, especially with her movies with Dressler. I wondered if Bette Midler ever watched her a little since Bette also comedy, too. Not just singing. Such great comic chemistry between those two.
As film history this is great, thanks for sharing. I also have to chuckle because this is a great example of the clunkiness of the early talkies - nonexistent cinematography, uneven sound, etc. But I'm still glad to see it since Marie Dressler's movies are still not on home video.

I finally figured out why I don't like "Polly Moran",she reminds me of (looks like her too) that other "big mouth" Barbara Streisand"!

The singer in the above video is Nita Martan, not Gwen Lee.
