I remember this from my old vinyl collection of Brahms symphonies conducted by Sir Adrian Boult, I think with London Symphony Orchestra...my favourite Brahms performance...
Wow, what a lovely surprise! I bought the (vinyl) record many many years ago and heard it so many times it's worn out. I was also lucky to hear Janet Baker singing in London. It's great to be able to hear it now after all these years. A thousand thanks for posting this!
Oh, how fortunate for you to have heard Dame Janet live!!! If I had the vinyl, I would've worn it out too. This is one of my most-played tracks on the CD set!
Thanks for the view and comment! (There's lots more Janet Baker stuff on my upload page, by the way, if you're interested. And lots more to come!)

I'm glad to hear that! It has quickly become one of my desert island pieces, too! ;)

Glad to have done so! I am reduced to near-tears every time I listen to this piece, so Brahmsian it is in its grandness!
Thank you for the view and comment!

A great and powerful statement sung
with infinite grace, stunning beauty,
profundity without pomposity, and
every gradation of feeling Brahms
intended! Thank you for posting
Dame Janet's monumental but
approachable performance!
