  • Generic YouTube comment, but a good one at that.

  • What belt is it?

  • Some say the Beetle is shit... I'd say it's probably one of the best cars on the road...

  • Nice! I'm a big VW fan myselft. Now lets try a cummings 16 valve.

  • is god¡¡¡

  • Upcoming accident and emergency reports anyone ?

  • hmhmh maybe shut the engine off ?

  • @rogermorsee you could do that but these VW's dont have tensioners so its better then way..lol

  • Which took more practice to perfect? Taking the belt off, or putting the belt on?

  • This is how NOT to do it.

  • @armands9186 who cares? lol :P he got the belt on.

  • That is awsome

  • HAHAHAHA

  • Are you sure it wasn't MacGyver?

  • I LOVE IT!

  • try that with a serpentine belt hahaha

  • Uh huh...that looks really cool, BUT.....how many times did it bite you before you got it down?..lol

  • Know how mutch money ive made at vw carshows doing this trick? Enough to buy me a paintjob.

  • Get a life, you need to get out more

  • this must make you feel like indiana jones

  • @LazySmi Sometimes, but Johnny Knoxville comes to mind more often...

  • @VOLKSWAGNUT

Or grasshopper from the Kung Fu series snatching the pebble from the masters hand

  • Eita, bem rapido mesmo! gostei....

  • If I tried that the screwdriver would likely go through a main artery

  • haha i love this, makes me want to buy you a drink lol gonna go check out you other videos now. I'm going to practice when i get home... well maybe... I could make a small fortune betting my buddies on this plus pull starting it with a strap.

I don't understand why someone would repost a video thats already on youtube. I hate seeing the same video posted by 10 different people. If you wanna share just link.

  • My wife is big time into campers and it's slowly rubbing of on to me. We went to a show and I got chatting to a guy who told me about this vid. I'll be honest, I thought he was joking! Superb man, your friend taught you well! :-)

  • @mark2too Thank you. Buses and Campers are great, I prefer the Double Cab Bus/Pickup. Having fun thats the best part.

  • For an encore, I'd like to see you try and change the pulley with the engine running! :)

  • @lee5490 I know I can change the Generator pulley with the engine running.

  • Can you demonstrate this next with a tire? Thanks.

  • @mikal dvBDeaUMddI You're welcome.

  • what if you screw up and lose a finger that would suck ass

  • @420potjuice Yep Probably. Life would be too boring without taking chances though.

  • I tried this on my cam belt! It didn't work...

  • Actually, the reason why this "quick change' procedure is NOT practical, & therefore seldom used, is because the old belt has most likely been "adjusted" a few times in it's life, as it has stretched...via the generator pulley shim arrangement. Thusly, after slipping on a new one, one WILL find it to be unacceptably tight.

    _

  • well the belt would have to be intact for this to work........When would this ever come in handy since I'm not taking off one good belt to slap another on.

  • hahahahahahahah fine

  • thats awsome. props man

  • Try changing the plugs while its running. Love to see that!

  • BY FAR ONE OF THE COOLEST TRICKS IVE BRO.

  • wow! That was impressive!

  • I love the 67. Ive had a few 67 beetles in my day. Ii have to say this video is a first for me. Too cool!

  • Lol I had to do this on the side of the road belt poped and there was a pepboys took me a min I didn't have the balls to hold it but I did get it and I will never try it again..

  • spelling aside impressive!!! (Honor)

  • @antjh1981 Haahhaa, Yeah never have been much of speller. You're the first to actually note it. After the video was published I couldnt change it so let it ride.

  • @VOLKSWAGNUT a year ago and no one noticed!!??

  • @antjh1981 No one noted it. I'm sure it was noticed. I caught it after it was too late.

  • Mad skills.

    I bow to your greatness.

  • Cool !

  • Ok now do it on a newer car :L

  • awsome :D

  • Pretty cool method... but I'm thinking that it might also work if you just disconnect the coil wire from the distributor and use a remote starter switch to turn the engine over while you do it, this way you can instantly stop the engine from turning over if you need to.

  • @SpockOfRock Very true, however, with an air cooled VW and it's low compression you can turn it over by hand to put the belt on....but thats pretty boring.

  • Fuggin amazing! Careful not to Lob off a finger!

  • Estas bien loco brother jajajaja esta chido el movimiento

  • ill be damn, thats preety cool right there.

  • Wow!

  • hermoso, me encanto!!!

  • Honer.

  • Beautiful work. Well practiced, I won't try it!

  • I won a $100 bet by doing that with my 65 bug.

  • AWESOME

  • I just tried this on my 2006 Tahoe, same technique with the srew driver and everything! Took me 2 hours! lol..

  • this good sir has made my night i couldnt quit giggling

  • Wooooooooww...that was impressive...I enjoyed it...kudos to you. And I was wondering Do Volkswagen Beetles really float for hours or are they like an average car and eventually sink

  • must have taken some balls the first time trying it,,, you try it,,, no you try it,, lets get mikey,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Vê se aprende agora a trocar uma correia do do fusca ok?

  • FREAKING EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • (Did Reese die with all his fingers??)

  • Comment removed

  • Now do it on a modern car

  • @sdflksdfkfh over half a million people watched it, might this perhaps be an indication that you're wrong and should kill yourself immediately?

  • @sdflksdfkfh Dude how in the hell do you even remember your username? Quit trolling or GTFO!!!

  • Awesome but VERY dangerous

  • OMG! It's very fast! but in the same way very dangerous...

  • Posted by two finger jack.

  • B R A V O ! !

    wild Bill , Arizona . usa .

  • Beautiful!

  • Pretty slick. I can see you've done that a few times. Had you not mentioned that it was a 67 Bug, I could still tell by the deck lid latch hole seal (67 only) and the air cleaner to carb bracket (67 only). 68 Bug had a version of it, but different.. Might want to run the original 67 only, twin-tube air cleaner if you still have it. Also, you might want to relocate that desposable fuel filter above the coil to underneth the car so you don't risk a fire. Gere

  • @GereDJ Thank you. A few times. Something like that. I see you know your Beetles. This video was filmed before complete vehicle refurbishing. Fuel filter has of course moved and now has dual carbs.

  • @VOLKSWAGNUT i also know my beatles. john paul george and ringo, good band eh

  • @GereDJ Haha, my thoughts exactly! I haven't owned a VW in years but I'm still such a Vdub-nerd!

  • wow, your cool.

  • NICE!!!!!!!

  • you can change it by hand just by slowly turning the motor over by hand. no need to even use a screwdriver.

  • perfect this on a water cooled 996 or scoob and you just might have something...? :)

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, as an air cooled tech, that's awesome! Don't know if I've got the cajones to try that on my '66, but I'd still have to remove the crank pulley tin first. ;)

    Awesome job though.

  • @cyclemut Yeah I know most of those are long gone by now. It would hinder my technique for sure.

  • Ya gotta love seeing the pay-off, on a bar-bet.

  • And whining when he should go to the hospital because it went wrong.

  • @lexpee ....Real men dont whine.

  • @hehfilms That's hilarious!! Why risk tearing your hand off or putting your eye out with a flying screwdriver when it only takes about three minutes?

  • I was at a 2010 car show and my dad thought the engine was still in the back lol

  • That is deadly.

  • ROFL that was awesome

  • Kool. Tres kool.

I wonder if I can change the timing belt on my car in the same way..

  • @bobbie4 you should try and see!

  • that's Bad Ass!!!

  • Awsome !!

  • If i ever tried this, i wouldnt loose my fingers, but id probably would have screwdriver launched at my face!

  • that is sooo sick

but its not the best for the belt haha

  • iT'S ALL FUN UNTIL YOU LOSE YOUR HAND

  • @1960markN Yep your right.

  • Yes, to all of that.

  • haha! that was SO good! I almost chocked on my pita chips I laughed so hard. The best thing about this video is that it's a legitimate car repair done in 5 seconds! Unequaled as far as I've seen.

  • can i try it on my 2.7RS?

  • @yaijai sure also try to do it with your timing belt

  • That is the COOLEST TRICK. GREAT, WUNDERBA.

  • sei un pirla!

  • haha lol

  • In the Interests of Health and Safety, it is our duty to remind CM channel viewers that we are in no way suggesting you change any fan belt whilst the engine is still running. That would be just plain silly, dangerous and offensive to all those seized nuts and bolts requiring loosening before you fit a new belt in the time-honoured fashion.

  • @ClassicsMonthly

I must agree.. silly, dangerous and offensive...Hey That's me...

    Its for amusement only. Enjoy!

  • @VOLKSWAGNUT how is that offensive?

  • will this work for the timing belt on my 16v?

  • Pretty cool trick.

    Para todos los vocheros.

  • You should see me do my surpentine on my 96 Pontiac...

Good job dude, I'll do that next time I step out and start one of my bugs..

  • This is a very cool trick to know. I have lost a belt before and never knew about this method. I would use it at the road side if i was stuck. If i was brave enough that is. I kinda like my fingers!

  • @petrol4d You dont need to have the engine running to just replace the belt in an emergency. Just get it rollled on as far as you can and just bump the starter. Works in a pinch, and no fingers will be harmed.

  • @VOLKSWAGNUT Thanks i will remember that next time i need to change a belt. There is no danger of me trying this with it running anyway. Cool vid tho, Its things like this that make the bug so great and the friendly worldwide vw community spirt too.

  • OK, so what we should remember here, is to use a LOOOOONG screwdriver. Probably don't wanna use the little reversible one that comes in the tool kit. Is that right???

  • Brb changing the belt on my Supra. ¬_¬

  • You truly saved my butt today! Didn't take me 5 second probably abt a minute or so, with shaky hands, but I did it!!!!!! You ROCK!!

  • @bryannim Just please be carefull.

  • nice i saw this video a while back and got to try it first hand last night when my belt broke on my bug and i had to install a new one. what size belt are you running by the way?

  • @TSCOOB Stock belt. Nothing special.

  • what?! does it harm the belt at all cause this will become my prefered method

  • @verdemanthe1 Yes it will destroy the belt. Its for fun only. Use the correct method for service replacing.

  • WOW!!!! No wonder those punch buggies will be around forever!!

  • I am wondering if I can do the same on a poly V belt with 4 ribs on my motorcycle...

It would save me a lot of work. What about tensioning the new belt afterward :?

  • cara esperto...

  • hey, was that a METRIC screwdriver?

  • @mellotrongirl

    Of course it was metric.

  • holy shit, that was awesome

  • now THAT"S impressive!

  • Nice! you got still all ur fingers?? :P

  • @SubaruBoy123

    Yep all 11.

  • @SubaruBoy123 and no screwdriver in the eye!!

  • affects you if you move the vehicle without a band?

  • Thanks

  • Takes some skill...and a lot of stones. Hope you don't mind I posted a link to this on Bullrun for the gearheads.

  • @pmills51

Nope dont mind as long as its a You Tube Link. Im glad you appreciate it.

  • Here hold my Beer,,,, Grabs a screwdriver and her keys and runs outside...lol that is flippen awesome

  • thats is fucken dope :D lol

  • Brilliant!!!! But I hope you were wearing safety glasses, Hard hat, Hi-Viz vest or coat, and steel toe cap boots before you attempted this move..? Ha Ha.

I feel like I need to find a VW now and have a go myself... :-))

  • @Bevoin1970 Hi Vis is an absolute must. Don't try this without wearing the Force Field.

  • If only you could do that on my Mercedes' serpentine belt!

  • the most awesome thing i have ever seen.i have to try it on my bug.this is soo cool

  • @VWAddicts Try at your own risk. Be very careful if you do

  • @VWAddicts if the belt gets grip on the screw driver or whatever you happen to be using it could fling up and be like *STAB!* lol
