Basically You can stand in front of it for some seconds (and really just some seconds!) and really occassionally-that won't hurt anything seriously (expect bactreias in that room). It's intended for use regularly, so the precautions that You must do is valid for this scenario. But, without proper knowledge about high-pressure mercury vapour lamp, and its effects, it's not recommended to operate these devices in any manner.
@sugerskull429 I think so, too. I guess it's just a really big lamp that - as the warning on the backside sais - also emits wave lengths within the UV spectrum. If it was pure UV light our human eyes would not be able to see it nor the reflections it evocates (unless we are endowed with a tetrachromatic sight that includes the UV spectrum or some other gene mutation).
@tarjr94 Only UVC and UVB ( the second only slightly) give skin cancers, and this produces only UVA wavelength light which destroys vitamin A when exposed to skin but it does not give any form of cancer. And it is not even a germicide at this wavelength either. The only harm this can be to humans is if you were to look at it without protection.
